so I finally got out on the bike... actually I got out day before yesterday when it was raining as well... 4000 miles sitting in a car will kill your fitness...

This is about halfway up a pretty good climb, I turned around right after this and bombed back down...

This is along the Buskin River, a hot spot for Salmon fishing

Pretty much a rain forest here, just a bit cooler

This is what Kodiak is all about, flyfishing for Salmon!

The island is full of little trails like this, I can't wait to find them all!

Chris, these look awesome. Do you carry a side arm while riding? I'd imagine that you might run into some bears on those trails.

Glad to hear you made it up there ok, man!!

Pretty amazing you still have internet access up there.

That looks great lots outdoor opportunities besides biking ,fishing and hunting would be on my list ..well I never hunted before but if I lived there I would definitely have to think seriously about it ..I bet you can find wild vegetables and berries ,
I would be tempted to carry a weapon with me on my treks .
What adventure be safe :)
Cheers

as for the weapon, I do not carry... I don't even own a weapon... while on the trails, I'll use "bear bells" and probably carry some bear spray as well... Kodiak Brown Bears do not like to be around humans... if they hear you they will go the other way... hopefully I make it 3 years... ;)

If you run into a brown bear at close enough range to worry I'm not sure annoying it with a side arm is the best decision.

Enjoy your time in Alaska fourflys--it is a truly magnificent place! When you want a change from the trails there's always the Fireweed 400 and the Big Wild Ride.

I lived in Mayo, YK for a few summers. Beautiful. Take more fall shots, its the best time to see Alaska and Yukon.
