Out of curiosity what is the country of origin of the family name 'Serotta'?

Is it Spanish, or Italian, or.......?

I believe it's Italian. It must be because I was asked by another rider, while on an organized ride, how I liked my 'Italian' bike. When I looked puzzled, the other rider said "Serotta is Italian, isn't it?" (true story)

So it's in the blood.

. . . to me. There are a number of Serottas around this area--the people, not the bikes--but I’m not sure how many of them are related to Ben.

names ending in a double "t" followed by a vowel are very common in Italian.

I am guessing that it is Italian.

Ben's heritage is NOT italian , I think its dutch/ belgian from the stories he has told but NOT italian . Me on the other hand make no mistake I am Spanish , from the Chris Colombus family , we were all captains of the sea after all .

pronunciation?

I'm assuming it's pronounced as it looks, but a guy at (non-Serotta) lbs was using a different pronunciation--thought to myself "Hmm, maybe I'm wrong."

I don't normally care about pronunciations, but this one piqued my interest.

i had a friend that kept referring to mine as a Serota. So I named my bike Carlotta so he would remember how to pronounce it. i ride with another guy from Minnesota, and he pronounces it the same way. Should I spell his home state Minnesotta?

Dutch, through and through. Thats a fact. Not italian, and they aren't made in colorado (we all know that but lots of people ask where in colorado they are made)

Smiley, the only thing you and Chris Columbus share is the water.

So, is it pronounced

"se-ro(w)-ta"

or

"se-rot-ta" ?

I always say it the first way, but my dealer always says it the second way. Strictly speaking it ought to be the second way due to the "tt", but another person in the the public domain of the same name has it the first way.

That was the point of my post above. It is pronounced like Carlotta, not like Minnesota.

Isn't 'Serotta' a Spanish name? I believe there were many Serottas in pre-Inquisition Spain (no record of Treks or Litespeeds!)

Fine, but is your way the right way?

Clearly it is a variable pronunciation from person to person.

The question that needs answering is 'How does Ben Serotta pronounce it?'

Yes, "my way is the right way." Ben pronounces it correctly, as well. If Ben was french, I wonder if he would pronounce it like Ottrott. ;)

I believe Ben would not be offended by either pronunciation so long as you buy the bike! :D
