Anyone get out today ? My desire to go out and ride this morning was similar to me wanting to go ride my skateboard after watching Gleaming the Cube in 8th grade.....funny how whats on the telly can do that to you.

Anyways....after watching the final stage today I had to get out for nice 40 miler. Perfect day for a ride.

After yesterday's century about the last thing I felt like doing was go for a ride but a beautiful New England morning called and my local group was heading out at 7:00 so off I went.

At our meeting place this one guy who is a nice guy socially but a hammerhead on every ride showed up. As I debated whether to go solo or give whatever was left in the tank one of the other guys mentioned that he was out for a two hour mid-paced ride.

So off we went for about 35 miles of really pleasant riding in almost perfect temperatures (about 70 - 75), humidity (dry), and company.

Ha ha...I had the same experience in 9th grade as well. Gleaming the cube: you just have to laugh at the movies you once thought were cool.

Rode 56 miles today - not a very exciting route. Did not get out as early as I wanted so ended up with some heat.

Got 60 miles and 6400 feet of climbing in today on the Firefly. 75 degrees and just about perfect conditions. Carne Asada and some really good Rioja coming up a tad later.

CaptStash (on left) joined the Sunday training ride, which I lead for the event I direct. I'm the guy in blue helmet in center. That's Seattle's famous gum wall behind us and we rode up post alley to get there! Today's ride was called "the Mid-Term" as we're about six weeks away from the event and I laid out a grueling 40+ mile route that included a lot of Seattle's finest climbs. http://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash4/s720x720/486406_4301211016471_2141744014_n.jpg

Rode Old Tollhouse Rd this morning. It is one of the climbs that are part of the annual Climb to Kaiser (http://www.climbtokaiser.com/), which is a local favorite. I've never done the actual event, and can't say doing this ride stirred up any real longing to on my part ;)

AZ, looks like the dust storm cleared the air there. No rides for me today, visited the grandkids, but I did get in a solo 60 yesterday, no pics, it's pretty much soybean fields.

It's been hot here in SJ, but I managed to get out and sweat thru
50-m's and 3-k's before seeking refuge and libations and nudity, haha.

I rode my Vamoots SL for the first time in months today. It still carries its winter grime layer. The ride was about 35 miles with some climbing and rollers. The last 8 miles or so was on the course of our annual SLO triathalon, which was in full swing. It was fun to pass up tri bikes on a Ti bike.
I've been riding my C50, Speedvagen, and recently my Eisentraut. Riding the Moots was so nice, it has me thinking I should probably sell the C50...

Three hours on the mountain bike today in Harvard Forest (3500 acre research forest owned/operated by Harvard that abuts my parents' land in Central MA). Lots of doubletrack / dirt roads and some single track. Also some roads that show up on a map but fade away into the woods or dead end at swamps...

I've ridden out there a number of times over the years, but there is such a network of trails and roads that I always seem to get lost at least once. Today I headed out there with a good friend to mix things up since neither of us have been on our mountain bikes since spring. Ended up doing more hiking than we wanted and my legs are torn up from thorn bushes and razor grass, but the weather was perfect and we had a blast.

(click pics to enlarge. Didn't want to clutter the thread with full size pictures)

Here's my friend Shane. Riding my old Klein Attitude Comp

Grassy road gradually faded into a swamp... we could see the road pick up on the other side of the swamp so we hiked over a beaver dam to get there.

My (well it's on loan from another forum member actually but I don't plan on giving it back...) WTB Phoenix. And yours truly emerging from the swamp...

The map showed a road leading up to this fire tower...but it was basically a quarter mile vertical climb through some serious brush/thorn bushes. (no photos from the top. There was a fellow from the DCR up in the tower so we decided to heed the no trespassing signs)

Reward when we got home. Rib eye, grilled onions and horse radish on sourdough. Washed down by some blueberries from the back yard muddled with cranberry juice, seltzer and lime.

I rode what is to be the elite nationals RR course today west of Madison, WI. I plan on riding it again next weekend so I'll be sure to snap and post some pictures. The course is beautiful! It is what the proposed Olympic RR course was to be if the USA was the venue for 2012.

My wife rode the 204 mile Seattle-to-Portland ride last week so the subsequent rides have been sight-seeing in the country rides. This pic was taken this morning.

I'm still amazed. I've lived in Spokane for 16 years now, our house is just 10 miles from downtown and I-90 yet this scenery, and much more like it is literally just a few miles from our house; thousands and thousands of acres of farmland and lightly traveled roads. Geez I love it here!

Old pic of where I was at 6:30am this morning. Same handlebar, same bar tape, same rider. Caught up to two amazing *killer* tri girls on the downhill located opposite of that peak. They went left, I went right. At least they said hi.

This morning I rode out to meet the transcontinental rider I'm hosting for tonight. We came back to my place after making several stops at points of interest. Was surprised that he commented that the grades seem to be getting steeper as he gets farther east. He was in his lowest gear on some of the local hills. I would have swapped his cassette for something with a 36 cog if he'd been running 10 speed, but I didn't have anything bigger than he had in 9. He may be looking to swap before he gets to Vermont. I had a fun day, only regret that we spent so much time talking about local stuff that I didn't hear enough about his trip. Hopefully I'll get to bed before my usual 3 AM and be up early enough to ride out with him at 6:30.
