I did my first legit century in about three years

101 miles up along the NH sea coast to Portsmouth. Iced coffee and pastries at Me & Ollie's then back again

Hampton Beach sucks once the beach goers start arriving but it was a spectacular New England summer day

Training for a century in 4 weeks, did about 2500' of climbing in the first 20 miles (hills above Brentwood and the Palisades) and then out to Malibu on PCH for a total of 55 miles...Weather was breathtaking!

Would have gone farther, but the young lady I was with pooped out. Oh well!

Next weekend, Latigo (9 mile climb) and a 75 miler in and around PCH.

I had a couple of mid-morning appointments at work, but I did not let this stop me. Hit the road for 54 miles at 4:05 a.m. Morning rides are the best this time of year.

After a pathetic number of miles the first 6 months of the year I have turned it around with 18 morning rides in a row.

An easy spin on the new Traut with GuyGadois on his vintage Bertin up to our local lake and back again. About 27 miles, several while on each other's bikes. Nice weather here in SLO and good company.

Did 40 miles of back roads. The weather was perfect. 70 degrees, overcast, and no wind!

140k - 2400m climbing... (100°F)... from Oakland CA, out to and up Mt Diablo...then back.
A bee flew into my mouth. I threw up the Slurpee I thought would be a great idea to drink... It's also my Birthday!
YAY.

Did the bike leg of our local annual winter quadrathalon. This 13 mile ascent climbs 1900ft. In 100 degree temp was not at all fun the last 3m. The fast return was awesome though! Twisting at 40+ mph back to town was a great way to test the handling of my new (to me) CSI. I am happy to report the bike didn't dissappoint.

It is also worth mentioning that our little town of 8000 is holding a motorcycle rally this weekend, and I saw many groups of bikers on the way up. Luckily, none were ascending while I was descending. I was wary.

Humid, foggy morning...mid 70's start, lower 90's by the time I got home. This year I've been aiming for at least one solo century per month, wasn't sure if that would happen in July...

I left the house with a vague idea as to where I wanted to go, and eventually decided to head toward Morrow Mountain, one of the few climbs within 50 miles. Ended up with 110 miles and about 5,300' of elevation gain. (It's more of a hill than a mountain)

Interesting how the types of roadkill vary by the time of the year...right now it's mostly mammals. Skunks, possums, coons, etc...as well as what looked like a 12" copperhead.

Fitty-four miles with almost 4000' of up-up, totally-turbo, full-tilt boogie (respect to Bobke) awesome. Maybe not a dumptruck full but at least a carload.

Can a bike be too good? It really is a beast and is a climbing machine. 52 miles 5500 feet of very cool climbing in the northern Santa Monica Mountains.

Another 100 or so with Liz on the tandem. The weather could not have been better. We were heading to NH, doing the random road thing, and found some of the best and worst roads. Kinda sad about not riding out to the RI ramble...

F/T school has knocked me out of shape,
I'm down to 40-50milers with mere 2-3k climbs,
but I'm still grateful to have some time and energy left
to ride my bike on the weekends and squeeze into my spandex, lol

Didn't feel great today = fatigue, heat, and boredom, but got out nonetheless

I had to spend the morning working on the yard, then some chores after that. But then I got a ride in, mixed dirt road and singletrack ride.

I did the Ottawa SuprFondo - 224km. Longest distance I have ever done but got in a fast group and was able to finish in 6:23... but feeling it today. It was the first year of the event so there was a few hiccups with regard to registering and timing chips, but the actual route and the volunteers along the way were fantastic.

After putting together 2 new-to-me bikes early in the week, I had a nice visit and 2.5 hr. ride with andrewlcox on Thursday. He rode my Atlanta and Colorado II, we swiched bikes on the way home so he had a chance to compare them. I'll post his pics if he says it's OK. I hope he didn't take any of me.

Yesterday I rode bits and pieces of the local century, mostly backwards. It came within 5 miles of my place and I ride those roads all the time, so I just went out late to see if there were any straglers, but everyone was gone and the crew at the start/finish was cleaning up. Stopped by a friend's house in the start town to show him a new bike. His greyhounds met me at the door, but he must have been out with his wife (or someone else's?).

I'm off in an hour or so to ride out and meet up with a transcontinental cyclist who's coming through. I'm giving him a place to spend the night, and most likely a couple of meals. From here he's headed across norther Indiana and Ohio, then to Buffalo and Ticonderoga, NY, and on to Bar Harbor, Maine. I don't know how many places he has lined up to stay, but if any of you are close to the route, he may be looking. I may start a thread on this after talking to him.

Mount Ascutney Hill Climb in Vermont. A lesson in suffering. Only 3.8 miles. One to one gearing on my Look 585 - could've used a lower gear.

Since I'm 6-2 and 180, this is not my kind of 'race,' but it's only 20 miles from home. Did no training for it this year.

Results? Let's just say I finished in the 'autobus.' With pain like that, I sure don't get why they also call it 'finishing with the laughing group.' Kept telling myself I was Johan Van Summeren and I just had to get to the top within the time limit...

The real battle was fighting the urge to stop and rest by the side of the road for a bit.

On Sat, we rode the classic Kancamagus Pass/Bear Notch/Kanc lollipop route. We started in Lincoln NH, rode east over the Kanc to 302, over Bear Notch down to the Kanc, and back over the Kanc going west.

Absolutely great day to ride - great day to do anything! We had 4 guys of various levels, so we got split up on the climbs and regrouped.

Heading up early towards the hairpin corner

Rode Saturday on the Healdsburg Harvest Century, near Santa Rosa. It was a 100K that went to the Geysers, near Cloverdale with about 5500 ft of elevation gain total. Felt great for most of ride including the climbing and then I suffered as it got to a hot 97 degrees on mostly flat rollers in the afternoon. I was sore yesterday and a still little sore today, but it feels good though! :bike:

I rode in the High Cascade 100 MTB race on Saturday in Bend, Oregon with of couple of friends. I consider myself more of a casual mountain biker who usually pulls the old Yo Eddy out a handful of times each year to do 1-3 hour rides on local trails so this ride to me was quite a challenge. The course was 103 miles 11500 ft elevation gain, mostly singletrack circling Mount Batchelor. Amazing trail network, beautiful scenery, and the ride organization and support was the best I've seen for any event. I woke up Sunday morning feeling like I had slept in a rock tumbler. Bruised, cut, sunburned and sore all over I was so happy my friends talked me into doing this!
