Has anyone heard from Bill Laine of Wallingford, Brooks vendor extraordinaire?? I'm hoping he and his shop fared ok on the New Orleans disaster.

He's fine and right up the road from me last I heard. Here's his note from ibob which is the bridgestone owners group site. Hopefully the business fared well too.

Hello everyone

Writing to let you all know that wife Erin and myself are safe at Erin's
folks house in Greenvillle, Alabama. We found a wi-fi cafe here and we
are trying to get started on communication.

We get most of our news about New Orleans on CNN. It looks terrible.
There is a map of the flooded areas on the NY Times site and it looks
like our home/business is still dry. We are on pretty high ground. There
is no telling what the winds and rain did or what the lawless atmosphere
has caused. What we know know - the mayor is calling for a complete
evacuation of the city, there is no water, power, sewer service or
communications.

Right now we are just glad to be safe. I talked with Diane on Sunday
morning, before the hurricane hit and she was planning to evacuate to
Nashville. I havn't been able to reach her since. All phones that are
504 (New Orleans area code) based are dysfunctional. We cannot contact
our friends. We did have one message from a friend still in town,
though, and she said that without electricity and communication they
knew nothing about the situation. So we know more than people that are
still in town.

Right now I am not sure how we will get going with Wallbike again. There
is some need to wait a little for more solid info about the situation in
New Orleans. The mayor is saying the power could be out for 2 months! If
that is accurate then I will try to start doing satellite business
wherever we are located. But we just don't know yet.

I know there are a lot of orders in our PayPal account right now. I am
going to start refunding all of those as soon as I can. We go online for
short periods and then there are other things to attend to. If your
refund doesn't happen right away, please be patient. I will not keep
anybody's money.

If you really need to reach me you can write to [go to i-bob list for email]. I am
not using the @wallbike.com mail account because the high volume of junk
mail that I get there makes a web-interface mail-reading session just
impossible.

So, thanks for all of your good thoughts and please don't forget about
us while we deal with this disruption in our lives.

Regards

Bill Laine

He'd been in touch with Diane (who works with him on the business) and she's fine also. I think he determined that his building was NOT seriously damaged by the hurricane or flooding. I don't believe he'd been back to see if it had been looted though. He indicated it would probably be a while before they could get back to NO to actually run the business from there, but hoped to possibly do something smaller scale from temporary quarters in the meantime. In any case, he's well, but dealing with the extensive fallout like all those from the area.

Simple looking message board. Easy to read, a little harder to post, but often interesting. Ibob, the concept, represents those people who identify with the more traditional approach to biking. b.o.b. stood for the Bridgestone Owners Bunch which I believe was begun by Grant Peterson when he was the marketing manager for U.S. Bridgestone Bicycles.
