Our area (like many) is in a severe drought. Worst in a generation. No rain for 63 days. :help:

Well, tonight was my night to organize a group ride. All was set up, everyone could make it, but...

Never been so happy to see this, and have to call folks to cancel a ride.

Glad that you're getting some relief. I heard that 60% of the U.S. is in drought condition right now.

I hope it is a temporary pattern and not a longer term shift in climate.

Could you organize a group ride for the St Louis area also?

This lack of rain stinks.

Plus heat. It was 99* at the start of my after-work ride yesterday. (6 PM, after the peak temp of 103*)

Neighbor says I should schedule rides the next 2 days as well.

Hmm... I see a business opportunity here... :D

Should have been with me riding from 11am-1:30pm before work!

Like breathing inside an oven!!

Should have seen me riding home from work in Boston at 4:30 pm. It was like riding in the shower.

Yeah, looks like I might have to leave all the vehicle windows open and my favorite steel bike (no, not the Sachs, please) out all night. The pressure from the cistern is getting pretty weak. Glta.

Ditto here in Indy. 100d today and other than a drizzle of mist, that unfortunately did not hit my mostly dead yard, tough times. One of the lakes here is 8'+ down. Boats sitting on cracked dry ground.

60% humidity here, and riding around the Morse reservoir was quite depressing. Both boats and docks were sitting several feet above the water level.

It was kinda weird before the storm hit... a lot of folks were out in their yard (this was ~ 6 PM).... everyone was in a really good mood and acting sort of giddy looking at the dark, gray and threatening sky.

A 'we're finally, finally going to get rain' party... reminded me of an old movie.

A NOAA study (think reported around July 10) estimated that the historic Texas drought and heat wave of 2011 was about 20 times more likely to have occurred due to human causes.

This year has been a complete 180. We’ve gotten over 30 inches of rain so far and are running about 5 inches above normal. And as expected due to rain, high temperatures in July so far are running about 8 to 9 degrees below normal. These wild swings in weather should be of some concern.

Last summer was too hot to ride much, and this summer too wet. Just hope weather goes back to normal.

At this point I'd settle for "not horrible."

I guess that will be tomorrow...a measly 93 deg F.

At this point I wouldn't mind 100* if it also came with 1" of rain over an hour or two.

How much did you get Tom? Just a tease for us, maybe a couple of tenths. Will be evaportated by this afternoon.

'twas a real gully-washer. Over an inch here... and today it's gray, overcast and moist outside. 76 degrees now, first day of the month that we won't have a high temp above normal.

You can almost hear the plants breathing a sigh of relief.

Humans too.

They are chopping corn in central IL. Not quite that bad here, but nobody is guessing whether there will be a crop. Some must think there will be, as aerial spraying continues, for the optimistic ones. We have declined to sink any more money into this year's crop.

Yeah, I've heard that yesterday's storm was at least a week too late to save the local corn crop, but almost no one here has started chopping... yet.

All the fields are grayish-green or just fully-dried-out brown. Sad.

I think the rain in Madison last night was the hardest I have ever seen. The word that comes to mind is "biblical." Glad I decided to drive to work yesterday.

that's the killer.

But when you haven't had any for 2 months...

It beats the alternative.

I just noticed recently how dry it has been in that area of the midwest, it's much like my hometown area in Iowa has been very dry too.
