Can anyone recommend some short-reach bars? My current ones are 84mm reach and 144mm drop (44cm wide). I'd like to get something 42cm wide and about 1cm shorter (less reach).

3t's work well and are pretty reasonable in the alloy version

The Williams alloy bars (http://www.williamscycling.com/Maxim-ACS_p_91.html) have the shortest reach I've seen- 75mm.

I'm sure there are other bars with the same/less reach, but that's the first affordable one that comes to mind. It's worth noting that it also has a very shallow drop- 123mm.

And a most informative website on the topic:

I use the Soma Highway One (75 reach, 130 drop) on my 26.0 stem, and Easton EC90 SLX3 (75 reach, 130 drop) on my 31.8 stem.

Note that not all short and shallow bars are the same. Some have a sharp drop at the ramp as they transition from tops to the drop (e.g. traditional bend like Deda and Ritchey). Others (like the ones I list above) have a nice flat ramp that allows for great shelf from hoods to top of bars.

I've been very pleased with Ritchey's Curve model. It's available in different price points/finishes (Classic, Comp, etc).

Wonder why the Deda 215 Shallow isn't made in 31.8--had to get a Rotundo instead. Anyway, these are moderate reach.

Would a stem with 1 cm less reach do as well?

I'm guessing that since the OP wants to switch bar widths anyway, decreasing the reach is cheaper than also getting a new stem.

I have used both 3T Ergonovas and Deda Zero 100 for years and think they are both great. The 3T have the flare to the drops where they are 1cm narrower on each side at the hoods than at the drops (if they are 42c-c at the drops, they are about 40 c-c at the hoods). The Deda do not flare (hoods and drops have same c-c). I like the Deda a little bit more, but they are both very comfortable.

+1 for the Zipp CSL
Also Easton SlX3 is effectively very short- the shape where the hoods go keeps them closer then most/all other bars.

But is also shortens the reach to the handlebar tops, which might not be what he is looking for.....

I've got two that I like:

- Enve compact road bar
- Easton EC90 SLX3

Both have short reaches and short drops. Don't have the figures on me now but I would venture that they are some of the shortest you will find. Nice bends in the hooks too.

yup - same with fsa shallow drop - had I known that I would have adjusted accordingly and purchased one size up.

Thanks everybody, for all of the input. And yes, I like where the handlebar tops are currently, just want to bring the hoods towards me a bit.

As I ride more and more, and really begin to play with the fit on my bikes, it is becoming readily apparent how so many of you have acquired a garage full of spare parts. :)

Would you like an extremely cheap/light enough option?

There was a reasonable possibility that it actually might be, which is why I thought it might be worth asking.
