Indeed! Visited the shop twice, my friends and I had a fun chat with Joe. The next day they replaced the chain on my bike while I waited. A great place!

You road with my friend Mordecai, he can ride forever.
Want to feel out of shape? Just watch him do a 200K with 8500 Ft of climbing on his Fixie.

Great blog and recounting of your adventure. I too, enjoy touring and xc-sking of all varieties. Who Knows, maybe someday we'll hook up. Congrats on your accomplishment and many more in the future. Take care.

Great ! Very proud of you.

Now get ready for LEL or PBP.
We'll drink a lot after the finish.

BTW it will take a good three weeks to feel human again.

I ordered it that night... the whole point is to be able to wear the jersey at Great River Ride, among all my friends with BMB and PBP jerseys

Sweet! Great job. I still haven't done a 1200k yet. I've got my eye on that one down the road for sure though. Also looking at the Alaska "Big Wild Ride" and the Davis "Gold Rush".

I rode my first 1000k 3 weeks ago. Did the SFR Golden Gate 1000. It was split across 3 days. 237 miles on day 1, 219 on day 2 and 170 on day 3. We got smacked down with 32,000' of elevation gain, nasty winds on day one, and a freak rainstorm and 15mph headwinds heading south on Hwy1 for 100 miles from Fort Bragg to Jenner on day 2.

We had 26 starters and only 14 finishers. Many of the DNFers were Grand Randonnee finishers too. The weather on day 2 was just insane. And nobody was prepared for a coastal downpour like that only a week after the summer solstice. Even on the morning of, there was only a 40% chance of precipitation.

Are you looking at PBP in 2015? Hopefully we'll cross paths.

A big difference between a 1000k and 1200k, besides the extra distance and extra day of riding, is that a 1000k tends to attract mainly local riders, while a 1200k will attract riders from all over the country. The Rocky Mountain 1200 this year even has quite a few Japanese riders signed up.

We had riders from all over--Texas, Florida, Missouri, Ohio, San Francisco, Seattle, DC, New York, Tennessee, Massachusetts, Montana, and Wyoming as well as Colorado. And that's just from memory :)
