I need something more durable than the standard plastic Shimano pulleys. The grit in winter here in Maine, which sticks around all summer, makes my rain bike eat through pulleys at a rate of a couple sets a year. Got any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jim

+1 for going single speed. I have the same grit problem here in CT. I save a lot of money not having to buy cassettes or cables or multi-speed compatible chains, increases the quality of training per mile and is a great off-season strength builder.

Never tried a belt drive but it seems a functional solution.

Clean your bike more often?

It's just something you have to deal with...

Machined ones are a bad idea (metal on metal = wear and noise) and are really just jewelry. That said BULLSEYE or Machine Tech are well made if you can find em...

Plastics are more durable than the soft aluminum and carbon pulleys. So your only option is just to buy the cheaper 105 pulleys and replace them more often.
