Not sure if anyone else caught that....

Unlike Phil and Paul, who try to instill us with their knowledge... the group at Eurosport (David or Carlton) commentating on pictures of cows on the mountain slope just said, "these are the french mountain cows, the legs on one side are shorter than the other so it's easier for them to walk on the steep slopes."

And here I thought it was because the cows were left leaning...

That is a weird fact to know, but I guess if you live nearby it might be common knowledge. How many more years will we have to listen to Phil and Paul?

Just to be clear, they were joking. I think making fun of Phil and Paul and all their 'weird facts'.

Understandable. That would be a cool evolutionary trait if so.

You've got to be kidding me, please say you were joking! Between the two of them they've named half the peloton whatever crap they like, e.g. Nibaaaali, Tein Raaramae, Whoa-ick-ler, etc.

And then give us valuable info like: 'Looks like Rogers has a puncture, it's either the front or the rear...' :help:

And not to forget searching questions like: 'Why does cascade sound so much better in French than in English?'

Old news. In upstate NY, we call them sidehill gougers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidehill_gouger).

Today, they bust out this story of by far the most interesting castle/palace/chateau that I've ever seen on the tour de france.

A french postman spent 33 years of his life building his ideal palace....

I'l be looking for that, Matt, when I roll the DVR tonight.
Small complaint about Phil & Paul/NBC Sports: they go on at length about every darn church, chateau, ruin or whatever the helicopter is showing, until last weekend, when an extended view of Le Corbusier's Chapel at Ronchamp, an undisputed monument of 20th Century architecture, was used as a background for advertisers' logos, without a word from either about what we were looking at.

I saw that and thought I recognized it from an architecture 101 class I took in college! I couldn't remember the name, just remember little snippets from that day's lecture about the ceiling looking like it was under heavy force of gravity, and that 'pushed' the light out through the windows. thanks for connecting the dots!

Phil and Paul are the best commentating team in sports, hands down. When Phil retires, there's going to be a black hole in the Anglo cycling world, and July will never be the same.

Well, I think they're second-rate at best, in just cycling commentary, and I dread to think what they would unleash on other sports!

But, hey...we each have our own preferences :)

Cheers!
