What are some other classic Phil and Paul comments?

Sooooo many.

On Pantani - "the little Italian climbing freak has done it again"!

A couple of years later - "Lance Armstrong is coming down this straightaway like a grand prix motor car"!

"Like a strawberry in front of a donkey" referring to the psychological motivation of chasing down a rider just up the road.

A whole list of them is here:

I've always liked the "turning a pedal in anger" locution, as well as "the elastic has snapped!" when somebody breaks away.

His call of Stephen Roche nearly catching Pedro Delgado still sends chills up my spine. Great call.

Makes it all the more sad he can't identify anything these days. I think he referred to Thibaut Pinot as a Banesto rider at one point during his breakaway.

"Spot of bother", a term I'm very familiar with.

"bridge to engine room, we need more power!" but there is no more power.

While iam not 100% sure this is a Phil Liggett ism "he just has to keep the legs ticking over..." It is one of my favorites which usually comes to mind when iam in "a spot of bother" on a long climb.

Roche's ride that day is still one of the best!

While watching the Tour some years back I enjoyed Phil's sarcasm.

As a cycling fan who was probably 100lbs overweight started running alongside a cyclist on a climb Phil simply said, "Now there's a fit man on the right!".

Yet I believe he will be broadcasting at the Olympic games.

VOECKLER!

I'm a huge fan of his and have been for a long time.

The dude just makes it happen, or dies trying.

So fun to watch.

Def. the last of an era--him, Voigt, etc.

Although Chavanel and Gilbert are more than worthy successors to the ethos.

And how about that heroic bridge by Voigt today? Yowza.

"Spot of bother", a term I'm very familiar with.

That's my favorite. A guy is dying, looking like he's about to be dropped for good, and that's just a "spot of bother."

I also like when someone is "dancing on the pedals" on a climb.

"It looks like Popovych has popped". I think he could do a lot better than that. He called Tyler Farrar Tyler Hamilton. Come on, Phil, time to go back to the rest home.

How about "He's going absolutely ballistic"! I think that's one of Paul's faves.

Cheers,

I love those 2 guys. Even if they can't get much correct.

Always a story about some cows, or it looks like he may have a puncture, maybe front or rear!

Really? I thought it could be in the middle

Today he called 'Pinot' TeJay like three times while Paul just kept casually correcting him.

the funny thing about this, is that after listening to them for 5 or 6 tours and other races, I never heard them (or maybe just didn't pick up on it) use the term 'au bloc' which is actually a term cyclists use!
