View Full Version : Would longer chainstays help??

Hey!
I'm considering buying a frameset that has chainstays measuring
43.5...as opposed to the bike I ride now that has 41.8 chainstays.

Mu current bike always feels as if I have too much weight on the
back...and I've got a handlebar drop of 8 cm so it's not like I'm
not putting weight on the front!
Do ya think the longer chainstays would help to put more weight
on the front and "balance" my weight better?

For the record both frames have the same top-tube length..and very
darn close angles as well.
thanks!

I think the bigger issue is what is the front center, the length of the stem and the saddle set back. The position of the handlebar (stem + top tube) relative to the front hub determines how much weight is on the front wheel.

What little I know is the chain stay length determines the back half of the wheel base. Of course a longer wheel base can be a contributor to a more stable frame handling. Usually a bike with long chain stays 42.5 cm or greater is typically a bike built to handle rear racks so that your heels do not hit rear panniers.

Summary: What is the difference between your position in space on the two frames?

Cheers,

Kane

What about the bike makes you say that there is not enough front weight?
