OK, i've asked before, and i still cant figure it all out. the campy docs refuse to give me a straight answer.

crankset: athena-11 compact, ultra-torque.

suspected BCD: 110 with 112 hidden arm bolt

i want: a rotor inner q-ring

rotor options: 110BCD or 113(Campy) BCD

is there a way to do this, or no?

All modern Campy compact cranks, except Centaur alloy square-taper, are 110mm/112.5mm hidden bolt.

When Rotor refer to Campagnolo Compact as 113mm, I assume it is this BCD(s) they are referring to.

that doesnt really make sense though, does it? (when rotor's office is open i'm calling them). i'm hoping to add an inner ring to my crankset, but it looks like 36t is the smallest inner Q ring for campy, not 34. interesting.

Yes, the only Campy compact compatible chainrings offered by Rotor are 50 and 36. You may even be forced to buy the set. Not sure on that.

And sure it makes sense; 113mm is 112.5mm rounded up. And Campy has never made an all-113mm BCD crankset, so it isn't that.

you can buy individual rings directly from rotor off of their site, or competitive cyclist also carries them.

i have heard that the Q rings are very nice for climbing long grades, helps to even out the pedal stroke at lower cadence by reducing the dead zone. could be all nonsense, but have heard good things from a few sources, and would like to give it a try on the little ring.

if i can find a rotor crank for less than msrp, that would be an option too.

BTW, why is a strong guy like you riding compact gears around here?

thats a good question. i'm trying to get a bike set-up for my vermont 6-gap adventure, and would like a nice climbing set-up for my travel bike, eventually i want to do some of the iconic climbs across the pond.

for around these parts, i find the 50x11 combo plenty high on the high end, and am slowly obtaining 38t inner rings for my cranksets, which IMO is a nice gearing combo for everyday riding.

Agreed. 50-38 is a nice combo. I use my 50-34 for trips to the Dolomites/Alps. Will also use it for D2R2 this year. You will like it for 6 gaps for sure.
