So...what do you guys carry in those little under-the-seat pouches?

Some kind of tire repair kit, sure...don't want to have to walk the bike back, but what else? A spare tube? One of those high-tech multi-tools? Do you really need one of those on the road? Aren't they screaming out to be stolen? What about a pump? How are those cool-looking little CO2 gadgets?

I found a lite bike-lock I can live with, the Kryptonite Kryptogrip. About $20, and about as light and compact as I've seen (wouldn't trust it in the city though.)

Finally...bikes no longer come with kickstands, it seems. Other than very carefully leaning your bike up against something, how do you keep it from um...falling over? Remember the "flickstand"? (Still have one on my old, beloved Vista Espada which I'm now having restored by my local LBS to use as my "loaner.")

Thanks,

Hal

Pedro's micro mini bag under the saddle has a 5mm allen key, a 16g CO2 cartridge aand a tube. In the pocket a cartridge, adapter, tire lever and tube bundled up in a sock that can be used a rag in a pinch.

In addition to Bill's advise, I carry a 3 mm hex, money, some GU in case I forget to put some food in my pocket and a 3" tire shim cut from a used tire (remove the bead) that works great in the event of a blowout or slashed tire.

I usually do long solo training rides (100+ miles), so I carry a fair amount of stuff which includes the following:

tire boot
2 spare tubes
patch kit
multi tool
tire levers
wipperman connex link
Co2 and adapter
small park chain tool (I sometimes break my chain)
$20, xerox of drivers license and insurance card

I've gone from one of the under the seat pouches to a fanny pack. I hated the idea of adding weight to my bike. I carry a spare tube, tire patch kit, hex wrenches, 2 tire irons, CO2 pump, extra small hand pump, money, Ipod, and cell phone on extra long rides. I was able to get all this in Pedros' smallest pouch with the exception of the IPod and cell before I switched over.

Jason, that link says:

"Beautiful selection of dugouts hand crafted in Canada of the finest exotic hard woods. Includes a free cigarette style bat so you can smoke a little tobacco without anyone taking notice."

Oh, so it's you can smoke tobacco. I was wondering what they were for. I'm glad they explained that.

Seems like a clever frame builder could turn your frame into a Bong. Maybe use your Camelback too. I can just see some cyclists pulled over at the side of the road with a Camelback hooked up to a frame taking hits.

In my younger dummer days, I used to keep a water pipe in my bottle cage. The only problem was when I got thirsty, I didn't have anything to drink.

Dear Penthouse,

I never though I would have any experience worth writting about until last week when I went on this ride. It started out very normal- until I rode up on this hot young girl who seemed to be having trouble with her bike......

come on we want to know why- I am guessing the need "poped up" and you didnt have the needed ammo. . .

Going minimalist:

Topeak Alien tool
Tire levers, 'VAR' preferred
Spare tire
Two tubes
Park tire boot and instant patches
Pen

The Carradice:
All of the above
Another tube
Space blanket
First aid kit
Pen
Clothing (rain jacket, wind jacket, arm warmers, leg warmers etc.) depending on time of year

Pump is a Zefal HPX which gets loaned out more often than I use it.

The bike that has the E6 lamp should also have a couple of spare bulbs nesting in some bubble wrap in an old 35mm film canister.

The fixed gear bike also gets a 6" adjustable wrench as it had two different size axle nuts.
