didn't see one posted so I'll start - left south asheville, nc sat. morning and rode up to craggie gardens on the parkway...elev. 2000something to elev. 5000something. On the descent we took elk mtn. road down to asheville for some lunch and beer at the thirsty monk tavern. Really cool switchbacks on that road. Lunch helped me for the remaining ride back for sure! To get back we rode through biltmore forest which was very nice, kind of ritzy and somewhat hilly. 58 miles for the day but it felt like more to me! Here's a shot at the craggie parking lot -

. . . the Centurion Lake George event north of here. I feel pretty good considering how I felt last weekend after that Old Chatham-Petersburg Pass-Greylock Death March. Shot lots of pics but I'm still editing. I'll go do a bike trail recovery ramble tomorrow evening.

Boston to P-town yesterday with the multisport team my shop sponsors on the tandem. The storm that came in over P-town as we rolled in looked just like the scene from the Ten Commandments where god parted the sea...

15 of our group went to VT yesterday to ride the 200 on 100.

Canadian border to MA border. 210 miles and about 11,000 feet of climbing.

I drove one of the SAG rigs for part and ride for part.

12 riders started planning to do the whole thing, 1 was going to switch with the second SAG driver, and my relief was going to come from the first guy to drop out.

8 guys made the 210, 1 made 125, one made 160, and 2 rode 220, each having taken a wrong turn at the last turn and rode an extra 10.

Fantastic day, amazing scenery, lots of fun, and totally exhausting.

Friday count? I continued on my goal to ride to every village, town and place name in the county during one calendar year. Friday's destination was Hegeler, one of the county's ghost "towns". Once the site of the intersection of two railroads, there's virtually nothing there now except a farmstead. I took the shortest route to get there, mostly very rough US and state highways, with a lot more traffic than my normal routes. It was a nice day to ride and the loop I did was 77 miles. I rode my carbon Diamondback and more than doubled the previous mileage on it. Really my first decent ride on the bike and I was impressed with it for the most part. Wheels are an old set of Rolf Vector Pro tubulars. The bike really rides nice, but the Kestrel carbon bar is too stiff for me, transmitted too much shock to my fragile hands and wrists. My only other complaint about the bike was its instability over 30 mph. A combination of rough surfaces, cross winds, and a frame that felt nervous compared to the steel Serottas I'm used to led to very conservative descents. I'm comfortable on my NHX over 40 mph but this bike was moving around too much at anything over 30. It has a short stem as the TT is too long for me, so that could be part of the problem.

Fixed, you're right, it's a EM 7-11...I love how it rides but I'm putting a 28t rear cassette on it for next time up there! 26t was zapping my reserves on some of the climbs. Front is compact 48-34.

nice pic, what weekends are made for!

Rode to my USTA Tennis Match early on Saturday. only about 25 miles round trip, but felt real nice, left at 7:45 so it was virtually me, the squirrels and the morning birds singing praise. Love mornings like these!

Sunday I did a whopper, just over 60 miles, 3.5 hours, 4,000' of total climbing out to the Northern MD suburbs. Had to drink plenty but actually felt pretty good considering the terrain, distance and warm temps.

Monday, in my office, doing monthly billing and recovering in the A/C thinking about my next ride and whether I should register for another local road race.
