Picking up jburtonrider's 7700 hubs, thinking of building up a set of lightish tubular's mainly for crit's... I hover around 195-205 lbs with decent power... any advice for a good strong tubie rim and what spokes? 32h f&r

thanks!

Hi Drew,
Since those are 32s you've got lots of options. Anything from the Kinline Tb25 to the Velocity Escape should be okay for you with that spoke count. 32f/r, sapim lasers and either of those rims should build you up a nice, versatile, moderately light wheelset. C2 tubulars will be overkill/heavier than you need to go at that spoke count, unless you want to use them for 'cross as well, in which case that would be a pretty killer set of wheels.

Good luck!

For crits.. Velocity Escapes or Kinlin tb-25 with DT Comps.

It depends a lot of your money, but since rims in racers gets pretty busted by accidents and pot holes i would go maybe with kinlin tb25, strong and non expensive rim. I weight 200 pounds and im not racing nomore but the rim is plenty strong. The next IMO is just go with velocity tubular rims but they cost more. Rebuilt a triplet clincher using a set and the kinlins work pretty good, plenty strong for my 200 pound ass.

As for tubulars dunno what your pocket can stand. Since you are racing i would just pick continental or maybe vittoria. For training and recleational riding I would just do 3/50 bucks ones.

Ambrosio Nemesis...Revs front, 14/15 rear, brass nipps, laced 3 cross thruout. At your weight, thin spokes(either Sapim laser or DT Revs) are too thin for the rear, IMHO.

I have what la vecchia patata recommends, but with DT Comps all around. They are great wheels.

Okay.. So velocity escapes seem to fit the bill price wise for me.. Using a spoke calculator with the measurements from shimano it looks like I'll need 296mm spokes in the front (3x), and 294mm DS/295mm NDS in the rear..

Looking at whats left from the last set of wheels I built, looks like I have DT Comps 294 and 295 for the rear wheel (or are the comps overkill/too heavy?), so I just need the Revolution 296's for the front -- anybody holding? (black, preferably?)
