"Carbon today is BLACK GOLD to the bike industry ."
(Pulling a Smiley quote from another thread)

Seeing that everyone is jumping in on the high end carbon bandwagon, I'm a little curious. Just for the heck of it, what is the price for "worked" Carbon per once? How does that compare to other precious materials?

Looking at a weight of three pounds:

Carbon $166.70 per oz.
=$8,001

Silver $6.98 oz
= $335.05

Palladium 183.00 oz
=$8,784

Gold $449.00 per oz
= $21,552

Platinum $915.00 oz
=$43,920

Rhodium 2250.00 oz
=$108,000

What does all this mean?? Other than carbon is getting real expensive? Not much else other then fun with numbers. ;)

Where is the price for labor and R&D to turn the material into a bike?

Maybe not clear, but that was what "worked" referred too.

:crap:
Got it.

No, but I wonder what the price of "worked" Silver would be if you could make a bike out of it? You think it would be "ButterySmooth" like Ti.? ;)

I think worked Teflon would be the best "alternatve" bike material!
