I am thinking about purchasing a CSI and want to know if you can tell the year from the serial number.

it is a 56cm and the serial number is

CS 56 1449

You can tell its a 56 standard geometry but little else. More about age can be distilled from looking at the frame details like rear drop out design and fork, and comparing with the catalogs.

I have one S# 224 that I believe to be a '96 so the one in question would probably be late 90's.

I don't think the year of manufacture means much as far as how the bike will ride as there were no significant changes except for the few of the very latest that were custom ordered with 1 1/8" head tubes. These are easily spotted because the HT was fillet brazed rather than lugged.
The good news here is that standard geos are perfect for most riders. When buying a custom I really want to know what the design/build parameters were because many were ordered for riders very different from me and likely would not be a good choice for me.

You can check the discussion CSi roll call...post your serial numbers (http://forums.thepaceline.net/showthread.php?t=65712) and based on the serial numbers posted in there, you might be able to get an idea of the year this one is from.

Based on 93legendti's input of "Yellow 2002: cs 54 1502", I would guess yours is 2001 to 2002.

i have a 2002 CSI that i can check the number against as well
appreciate the help
this is for the 56cm on ebay, but i really want one a bit cheaper, and maybe in worse condition
