Some, if not most are going to have a three day weekend, maybe longer. Enjoy the Giro finale if you like, it should be great, but ride less is my thought. Spend time with your spouse (okay maybe if you both bike), kids, family or dog. A book. A beach chair. The deck. An umbrella. No umbrella. Suntan SPF lotion. Suntanning oil. Music. Silence. People. Alone. Ride less.

A long drive back to your family's place. Staying put. Walking alone or with someone you care about, not just the love of the bike should hold greater importance than thirty-two spokes. Even if the bike is laden with Campy alloy. Two feet, no cleats, flip flops, bare feet, in the sand, a dip in the river, lake, bay or the ocean. Ride less. Eat less. Drink less. Breathe more. Take an outdoor shower wherever you can.

And if you do ride, then ride like a madman or madwoman. Less soft pedaling. Stand out of the saddle up every hill. Sweat like a wild animal. You won't pass out. You might puke. You'll be fine. Just ride early in the am so you can find the babe, book, beach and sunshine. And log onto the Forum so you can get the Giro update from your Smartphone, while at the beach, reading the book in the sun.

Keep the phone on, turn off the ringer; my goal for the summer is to have my head hurt, my feet stink and not love Jesus (for all you Parrot Heads out there, you know) and The Southern Cross is wherever your own two feet meet the water. Any water.

Lastly, everyone who wrenches should own a Park Tool Derailleur Hanger Alignment Gauge - DAG-2. My RD was off ever so slightly, enough I could hear a faint buzz in a few cogs and last night I resolved it. I'll never install another RD without analyzing the hanger's alignment.

Enjoy your long weekend.

I'll partially follow the advice given previously.
Maybe Knee Deep:?

okay maybe wishin' anyway. have to work monday.....
/snip/....
Wishin' I was
Knee deep in the water somewhere
got the blue sky, breeze and it don't seem fair
the only worry in the world
is the tide gonna reach my chair
Sunrise, there's a fire in the sky
never been so happy
never felt so high
and I think I might have found me my own kind of paradise

Wrote a note, said "Be back in a minute"
Bought a boat and I sailed off in it
Don't think anybody's gonna miss me anyway
Mind on a permanent vacation
The ocean is my only medication
Wishin' my condition ain't ever gonna go away

Viper -- I really appreciate your post. We so often get caught up in working, riding, training, and racing that we can sometimes neglect the things that are the most important. Time passes so quickly and we can never turn the clock back. I can't believe that my youngest is now essentially a senior in HS and will be away from home too soon...I am going to spend as much time with her as I can this next year.

Viper, if you're a Ridley Scott fan, there's a complete retrospective beginning tomorrow at Lincoln Center:

Thank you for the head's up. I read this article, enjoyed the interview and was pleased to hear what I suspected: Bladerunner will have another entry. I don't know if it'll be a prequel or a sequel, but Ford and Olmos are still around and capable. Olmos' effort on Battlestar Galactica was significant on a show that was substantial. Ford, while acting in many horrible films the past two decades, pulled off a nice display recently, in 'Cowboys and Aliens'.

One of the greatest science fiction movies of our time:

I'll be at Prometheus soon.

:beer:Of his films that I haven't seen, this early one intrigues me most, because of its title:
