I'm sure most of you who run the keyword 'merckx' frequently would've come across this item: http://www.ebay.com/itm/EDDY-MERCKX-CARBON-FIBER-SEATPOST-FOR-AXM-TYPE-FRAMES-/251055024628?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a740ba9f4&autorefresh=true

This genius' initial price was $600 for the item. Agreed it's a Merckx seatpost in "original packaging" but blow me down if the seller isn't full of *aye-caramba*!

For the record, the 3 offers he got for the seatpost were all from me:

BO1: 15
BO2: 5.75
BO3: 15.25

Just to mess with the jerk!

Great seller who doesn't respond to e-mails. Good luck.

Hmm. Looks like the seller lowered the price to 250 for BIN.

hate to pick on the guy, but check out one of his other auctions:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/RIGHT-SIDED-CRANK-ARM-WITH-BEARINGS-NEVER-USED-39-53-TETTH-CHARINRINGS-/251055025642?pt=Cycling_Parts_Accessories&hash=item3a740badea

It's a good price.. I'm trying to figure out if it makes sense to flip it... but dealing with this guy seems like a waste of time. For someone that uses a 177.5 crank this could be worthwile, if it is indeed SR.

Something is wrong there...

Actually is the right side only, for 100 bucks is a steal tho... the problem will be to find the other arm

Yup, finding "only" the non-drive side arm might prove to be a challenge.

I've been following this specific item for a long time now (although I have absolutely no need for it). It went from (600 -> 500 -> 300 -> 250 with OBO) + 15 shipping.

Hmm. Looks like the seller lowered the price to 250 for BIN.

If that quote stuck out you should've looked at his first iteration with the BIN at 600. I can't quote but it went something like this:
If you want a seatpost which says Merckx on it then be ready to shell out the money for it. Please don't send insulting e-mails about the price, this price will never come down. God forbid that I should actually make some money out of a sale.

Drove me nuts and made me want to report him to ebay for extortion, tried but there's no such option

The price on the crank arm seems way too low.... and I'm wondering how the "bearings" are installed. Seems like a scam by someone with poor language skills.

I mean, you pretty much have to have a merckx that axm and in need for seatpost. and if you had a bike that took a 29.4 diameter post, do you want a merckx post? he doesn't really list any other information about the post. it looks like a 2 bolt mount sim. to a thomson. how long is it? whats it weigh? and he doesn't respond to email!

Don't understand why anybody cares...the 'jerk'?? Sorry, don't get it.

3 year old demo Serotta, it isn't worth over $7000 to me, think that's nutz but I wouldn't call him a jerk.

IMHO.

I have a problem with people trying to rip somebody off and then justifying that as they did in their first ad (mentioned language above). Also, it's misusing a brand name in the worst way possible, just for money with no regard to the roots of the brand.

Yeah, I'm a purist and am easily ticked off by unethical opportunists.

Jerk? Guy's a saint. Look at that bike. And look where it's from. It's yellow, and it's in Austin, Tx., the very same city that Lance Armstrong lives in when he isn't living in other cities in other places. And the seller was so gentlemanly, he didn't even mention it.

You can't put a price tag on that.

Guess so, you must be kept busy....

misusing a brand name for money.....imagine that.
