ever ridden on a road that's been torn up, prepped for resurfacing? two miles of teeth rattling excitement. great feel for technique for rough roads, loose grip on the bars required, light on the saddle, using legs for suspension. good test of the new wheels. still perfectly true and happy. fun stuff.

It's a right of spring for bike rallies around here. But, those places have the best pavement when I do the ride the following year.

That's when the right (or wrong) bike makes all the difference. Like night and day.

6 miles of my main route have been in that condition since last freakin' November! Finally paved last week and I felt like EM bombing down the big hill with the new pavement. Check all of your parts after the ride.

Its one reason I went to 27s on my main road bike. Charlotte seems like they've just given up paving large swaths of road.

Does mean I'll be a cobbles master if I ever do the Paris-Roubaix sportif.

:beer:I've been over the BQE a few times in my friend's Geo Metro. Very tooth-rattling. :)

So, you have been riding on Brookside Dr., between Millburn and W. Orange? It will be nice when they finish the paving.....

impressive. correct.

I think you live near me. In any case, having to do rides from home a few times in the last week, I was displeased to discover the bridge on Parsonage Hill Rd. closed (at time I went out, in both directions) and then that they had stripped the pavement on Brookside. When you said two miles, I took a stab....

Hey I work in the East Orange VA hospital. We should get together for a ride sometime.

Yeah, we could. I live in South Orange, just on the other side of Seton Hall from the VA hospital. Since I work in Morris Co. I tend to do afterwork rides out there, but do ride around Essex in a pinch.

You need to go back and ride it as soon as they repave the road. Your tires will pick up a fine layer of asphalt and rolling resistance will get a new definition.
And the best part is it takes a while to wear it off the tire.

Are you saying the wheels will pick up a coating that will make them faster or slower? Not sure if the new definition is a good or bad thing.

Is this a joke?

rockin' milled roads, yah!! end up doing it all the time, no big deal except when there are gravel piles around the rocks spread around.

I grew up in Morris Co btw and used to hit the dirt roads in the deep Rockaway abandoned iron mine boonies; do-able except for, again, too much gravel on occasion.
