I'm told that campy cassettes can be customized with individual cogs, would anyone care to shed some light on this process? I'd like to build a 12-29 10 speed cassette. Although I've not yet ridden with the standard 13-29, I feel that I'd miss the 12T cog since I'm running a compact crankset.

I've built a 13-29 9spd veloce cassette by replacing the 26 with a Miche 29. Works good.

I'm pretty sure that you could just put a 12 t cog in place of the 13 if you wanted to. Of course you widen the shifting but at that high end I don't think it would be too big a deal. I mean neither of those gears are in the sweet spot or anything.I'm told that campy cassettes can be customized with individual cogs, would anyone care to shed some light on this process? It would be nice if individual cogs were reasonably priced to do this sort of thing.

I'm wondering if you would really miss the 12 cog. A 50/12 will give about 32.75 mph at 100 rpm, while a 50/13 will give about 30.2 mph. For me it wouldn't matter, I'd just be content with the lower top speed for the few times I'd reach it. More time is spent climbing than descending, I'd optimize the gearing for the ups, not the downs. I do like wide range cassettes, wish Campagnolo would provide more options.

Just take a Veloce or Centaur loose cog 12-25 and a loose cog 13-29....and you've got a 12-29. Skip the 16. Might shift a tad slow using a 17 after a 15 that was dsigned to follow a 16. If the 26 and 29 are pinned together, no problem. Follow instructions on onfo sheet about where spacers go. I would rather have the 16 than the 12, so would just use a 13-29.

I'm an old guy....and don't like to go too fast dowh hill....so if I'm going over 25, you can bet I'm not pedaling. On a double front, I like cassettes that start with 14 sometimes. I mix a 14-23 loose cog in with a 13-26 or 13-29. Then all following cogs are correct.

Can anyone recommend the best (least cost) place to purchase loose Campy cogs?

The proper way to create a 12-29 is to skip the 16T cog, but it will create a lousy 15-17 shift, since those two cogs are not timed to be next to each other. I tried it once and it sucked.

You need the 12-15 from a 12-25 and the 17-29 from a 13-29.
