Helluva day here at #IM703FL. I felt pretty good I must say. Think I finally figured out the nutrition component which has been dogging me.

IV Nutrition?...hahahaha LOL
Just kiddin' ;) I couldn't resist.

Would he have been tested after winning this race?

There's a video somewhere with a bunch of youngish Fixie riders zipping around Austin, blowing through intersections, etc. 'Bout half-way through they hook up with LA - who's also on a fixie - and everyone's having a ball...

And then he just decides "okay, bye now." And he's gone. Just accelerates away like starting a TT.

At the end, there's a shot of him showing them around his house; he's got a room with the 7 jerseys and I gotta say... 7 Yellow Jerseys is pretty spectacular.

. . . and how much he wins by. I personally think Lance doped--and so far has gotten away with it. Unless controls and testing are as sophisticated in pro Tri as they are in pro cycling--and I'm pretty sure they are not--he would get away with it even more easily there. I don't hate the guy, I'm just trying to look at it realistically. If he keeps getting results like this others will also raise the question.

I've never bothered, nor will I again, post on LA. This sums it up as far as I'm concerned. By way of an explanation for why he's never been caught...he approaches his doping like everything else he does, meticulously.

Lance is still running, swimming and biking away from his childhood angst of a broken family and a father who never loved him. That ain't a hug for the dude with the 'I'm Lance's Papa' tee-shirt. It's a "Yeah right pal" stance and the dude with the tee-shirt is hugging the (only) thing that matters to him, mommy's cute little body. Lance, he's got a lot of fuel for his athletic fire, kindling created from his childhood. He doesn't do the New England Cross-Rocks scene where there's Beer Stations on the course with funnels, chugging or getting plastered afterwards on free beer. He gets off on winning. I expect him to win every competition he enters. Aside, in my book he won the 2009 TdF.

But BBD--

How do you reconcile this view with your admiration of Chris Horner, who wept when Lance crashed himself out of contention in the 2010 TdF? Either Horner is willfully denying what you "know" about LA or Chris isn't quite the unsullied class act (if not 'innocent') you posit him as.

Respectfully,

HB (doesn't care about alleged doping either way, was NOT big fan of LA bike racer, is a great admirer of LA triathlete)

I'm pretty sure that's his grandfather. He had a pretty rocky relationship with his family. There is even some distance from his mother. His teenage years were pretty turbulent, even while his mother and sponsors supported him.

Maybe he's a deplorable, semi-talented cheat who, even now, at age 40, with nothing left to prove, so much money his grandchildren will never have to work in their lives, and no other reason than the desire to win and crush everyone, he STILL dopes. Maybe he is a lifelong liar, delusional, self-absorbed and ego-driven, for whom success is the altar on which he would sacrifice his honor, his relationships, and his long-term health. Maybe he gleefully wields his wealth and influence to plow through the rules like an ice-breaker, somehow leaving no trace. Maybe Livestrong is a sham and a tax shelter where he launders his substantial income and buries his globe-trotting travel expenses. Maybe he is the soul of evil and deserves to be stripped of every accolade and award, tarred and feathered, and stoned to death.

Or maybe not.

I for one I´m tired of people dismissing everything the guy does, as incredible as it may be (like winning Tris at 40 after a punishing cycling career) because "he doped," which we don´t know for sure. Even more tired of people implying that if he doped in the past he must be doping now, despite the fact that been caught doping now would be an utter disaster for him, not worth the relatively modest reward (is not like winning a tri in Florida will add much to his 7 Tours legacy).

Is cool to be a Lance hater, or "doubter," now, but for me the guy is a monster of an athlete, doping or not, and the EPO or whatnot that he could have taken maybe if perhaps most def who knows didn´t certainly help him descend cols like a madman or handle his bike through a potato field or something like that after the Joseba Beloki crash. Most of the people he was going against were certified juicers, and he still beat them fair and square. So, even though I´m not myself sure whether he doped or not, I still admire him and I´m happy for him when he shows that he still has the grit and determination that no steroid will give you.

That said, I´m not a "fanboy," never bought a Trek bike in my life, don´t even have a Livestrong band, but I may buy one one of these days just to show my modest support for a guy that is hated, IMO, irrationally by many who get all teary eyed with the vids of the greats of the past, who were all taking all sorts of stuff when it was almost legal.

Pretty clear by his teenage pictures that he was going to be a superior athlete. I'm not a Lance fan at all, be the guy is a freak of nature. And a little juice (just like the other guys) and he's very tough to beat.

Is this the 50's, or 1999
All I wanted to do - was ride my bike and win
So take me away, I don't mind
But you better promise me, I'll be back in time
Gotta get back in time

Don't bet your future, on one roll of the dice
Better remember, lightning never strikes twice
Please don't drive eighty eight, don't wanna be late again

So take me away, I don't mind
But you better promise me, I'll be back in time
Gotta get back in time
Gotta get back in time

I want a new drug
One that won't make me sick
One that won't make me crash my bike
Or make me feel three feet thick

I want a new drug
One that won't hurt my head
One that won't make my mouth too dry
Or make my eyes too red

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm in spandex
When I'm alone with you

I want a new drug
One that won't spill
One that don't cost too much
Or come in a pill
I want a new drug
One that won't go away
One that won't keep me up all night
One that won't make me sleep all day

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
When I'm alone with you
I'm alone with my chimera
I want a new drug
One that does what it should
One that won't make me feel too bad
One that won't make me feel too good

I want a new drug
One with no doubt
One that won't make me talk too much
Or make my face break out

One that won't make me nervous
Wonderin' what to do
One that makes me feel like I feel when I'm with you
When I'm alone with you
All alone with you
All alone with my chimera, yea, yea

The guy is one tough dude in my book. Especially after seeing him fall in the 2010TDF(? not sure of the year) race. Caught a pedal on the curb and hit the pavement on his back at 30mph. Looks like he slid forever on his back. Back up on the bike and off he goes.

Here's what a UCI Commissaire said in the most recent Procycling magazine:

Remember the time trial up Alpe d'Huez in 2004? When he arrived at the top, his jersey was covered in spit. It was disgusting what people did on the Alpe that day. That's the reason I have a lot of respect for Lance. Sure, he became famous and won a lot of money but he suffered for it like no other rider I know.

No matter what you think about the doping charges (and I think they're true for the record), you can't deny he is a tough, hard-working guy.

From Twitter: Lance ArmstrongI finally figured out the nutrition component which has been dogging me.

I cant imagine what he 'figured out'. Over all the years of being a professional in such high intensity sports he must know a ton about sport nutrition. What did he 'change', eating at 31minute intervals instead of 30?

When I ride I choose 1 of three things to take with me, and I don't eat at standard times. Amateur.

Anyway, that's some good work he did, I would congratulate anyone who comes in first, or anyone who finishes the race!

eating and drinking enough to run fast without literally losing your **** is more complicated than you seem to understand... especially under race conditions. this in part might be Lance gamemanship but it's a common & serious concern for many people, especially at the full IM distance he's gunning for.
