One of the most iconic shots of Oakley = Andy Hampsten:

I've owned about ten pairs since I was a wee lad for baseball, golf and of course, cycling. I have the Radar Pitch, great fit and love them on the bike. I missed the M Frame, I had M Frame Heaters (which is the mongo-sized lens) year ago...I dig the retro look.

Just picked up a pair of M Frame Hybrid. Like this (but with black frame):

http://www.oakley.com/images/catalog/generated/750x350/f7/4bb3af18833ff.jpg

M Frame Hybrid S = same as Hybrid but 'S' means for smaller faces
M Frame Sweep = cool.
M Frame Heater = total retro (almost a pair of goggles) as seen here:

http://oakleysm.com/2010_Tour_de_France_01/history_banner_01.jpg

M Frame Strike = looks military/copper/fuzzy

I have always liked them since my college days. My first pair was the Frogskins.

Then I have a pair of e-wires that I lost.

I have been meaning to get a new pair but they don't seem to fit my head well (my head is too wide, typical Asian head.)

They had a sale recently in the Oakley Vault (Clearance) I scored a pair of Asian Fit Flak-Jacket. I used it for the first time in this morning's commute and man, they do fit like a pair of leather gloves.

tux, I felt a flutter within the Force this morning. Now I know. Your hot, new glasses. Nice job dude.

To me Oakleys are 80's personified; Miami Vice (which I never watched one episode of until my knee operation in 2002 and I bought season I and then watched every episode) 80's music, cars, women and bikes.

Oakley's effing rule. Have three pairs of Jawbones (with assorted "pieces", have about 25 variations, fav is full white "stormtrooper"), one Twitch, one Plaintiff coming and have been trolling the usual places for racing jackets. Yes, the D-bag quotient may be high, but who cares. Here's two of many.

I use the Radar Paths and they have been amazing for me. I love how they offer three frame sizes for them as well.

I was awaiting the Radar Lock that just came out but I decided to wait on the custom feature for them which I have no idea when that feature will be available..hopefully soon!

For sports I agree they're fantastic. I can't imagine life without gold iridium lenses. Its too bad they discontinued the zeros (the older ones) as those are my favourite glasses for running.

Veggie, this may happen to you as well. I too had Ryders before. They are OK eyewear, no complaints, but once you put a pair of Oakleys everything else seems predeluvian. Really, it's like discovering color television after you've been watching only black&white.

Wow. I was hoping for some juicy posts in this thread, but you have taken it to a new plateau. Three pairs of jawbones with twenty-five possible variations? Dude, you deserve a G-Force Spectra Guard Helmet to go with your Oakleys:

http://www.kropserkel.com/botp.htm

The Jawbones are next for me. Black with mebbe Fire Iridium.

I might be selling my five year old Radar Pitch, which are still new and look like this (Vino was the first to have them):

http://cdn.mos.bikeradar.com/images/news/2008/10/04/78298000-280-75.jpg

My Radar Pitch just don't get used. I dig the Radar XL, slightly bigger than the Pitch's lens:

http://images.nitrosell.com/product_images/3/569/large-oakley-radar-xl-blades-pb.jpg

Lastly, these are my daily glasses, the Holbrook polarized:

http://www.oakley.com/images/catalog/generated/750x350/6d/4de6d3f2b33b4.jpg

I try to keep the 80's alive!

PS: AZ Rider, I had the clear Frogskins with those lenses, fell asleep on a flight back from CA, used the glasses as a sleeping device to block lights/glare, passed out, drooled all over myself for hours, woke up in NY and must've lose the glasses while passed out on the plane. I replace them with the Holbrooks. I am bitter about the loss. Someone scored a kewl pair of shades.

I had used Radar Paths for years and was quite happy with them. Then I tried Rudy Genetyks and cannot believe how much clearer the Rudys are to me. I will admit however that nothing shed water like the Oakley lens, but I find the colors more vivid and everything sharper through the Rudys.
I should point out one thing that may be unfair: the Oakleys have the stock Livestrong black iridium lens and the Rudys have the Polarized gray. The polarization could be adding to the clarity, but I got the entire set of Rudy glasses for less than just the Oakley polarized lens, so it was a good deal.
I too had a set of those glasses LaMond has on (in yellow). They even had a little foam spongy thing at the top to soak up sweat.

Do the Jawbones limit visibility? I love the look, but it seems like the thick frame would be more visible in your peripheral vision than, say, Radars or frameless sunglasses from other brands.

You need the Asian Fit Oakley models - I have the same problem. Oakley is one of the companies that have several sunglasses that fit my Asian face well without the lenses resting on my cheekbones. The Asian fit has a slightly bigger nose piece and some models are flatter (less curvature) of the frame.

Unfortunately, the retail stores don't carry the Asian model to try on, so you need to mail order. Obviously, you should buy them from a retailer with a liberal return policy.

I have many pairs: M-frames (over 20 yrs) for cycling and Flak Jacket & Half Jacket for golf and casual. I check out how the style looks by going to Oakley's Japan website and view their gallery of sports pros.

I went to the retail store and they don't have Asian Fit ones for me to try on. The Oakley Vault was having Asian Fit Flak Jacket for $60. I figure I would take a chance since I am pretty I can sell them without losing money should they not fit. Turns the Asian Fit is prefect for me (wide, round Asian face with low nose bridge :)

I believe the only major difference is the lower jaws, which are a bit smaller on the Split Jackets. They both use the same thru bolts and ear socks. Best to try a pair on. The "fairing" on the lowers jaws on the jawbones doesn't affect me, but I also have a blue ribbon winning pumkin head.

Question. Does anyone own and use Oakley Radar Range? I ask because I am torn between going with the Radar Range or the Radar XL Blade. I do not have a tiny noggin and I dig the retro look of BIG 80's glasses. Radar Range and or Radar XL Blades are a cup of tea I looking to sip. Maybe this question requires a lady's perspective? Or some kewl dude.

Let me know your thoughts, ideas, concepts. Heck, create a Six Box Powerpoint Slide if you choose.

I sent binxnyrwarrsoul my fresh (we should all use the word more as we did in the 80's) Retina Burn Radar Pitch. I <3 them. I may replace them with same model, different color. Or go BIG in Japan with Radar XL Blades/Radar Range.

Regardless what you think of the glasses, they are up there with Nike as far as marketing goes.

In fact when the Chilean miners were set to come out of the ground they sent a pile of Radars for them with dark lenses. Of course there eyes weren't ready for the light so they all emerged wearing them.

Brilliant.

IIRC from Lance's book, I think Oakley stepped up to provide Lance with medical coverage after Cofidis dropped him when he was found to have cancer. Class move on their part.

Similar to the Chilean miners, Coke pulled off a marketing coup when it was giving away six-packs and cases to folks when the Berlin Wall fell.

I caved to peer pressure. I blame binxnyrwarrsoul and Lance. I always had an interest in Jawbones. Just snagged some in matte black with polarized iridium:

binxnyrwarrsou, if you sensed something in the Force today, you now know why. Also, while you do not have my lightsaber or power converters I bought from Toshi Station, the Radar Pitch were with me during some bike battles on Asphaltine and wiffle ball games with my jawa-sized nephews. Essentially, you may gain a few watts of powah on your bike.

Are the Asian-Fits just a nosepiece replacement for all models? I'm specifically looking into the Radars, Flak Jacket, and Half Jackets.

It was mentioned that the only difference between the AF-Jawbones and the regular version was a nosepiece.

I highly doubt that. The website shows a difference in curvature and frame width. I've only had one chance to try some asian-fit half jackets are they were worlds better in terms of fit compared to the regular. Definitely was not only because of the nose piece.

I called the company (great suggestion, btw :)). They were very helpful. They said the differences between Asian Fit and regular depend on the style.

The differences between AF and regular fit might include lens shape, stem shape (e.g. the parts that wrap behind your head/ear), and the nose piece. The sales rep also said that no matter what style you buy, they should always come with the regular and the AF nose piece... even if you didn't purchase the AF.

I asked about four styles in particular. Here's the results:

Jawbones - only nose piece
Half Jacket, Half Jacket 2.0, Flak Jacket, Radar - nose piece plus other differences

I'm having some trouble with my Oakley Flak Jackets and want to see if anyone here has a suggestion to improve them.

I have been using them (with prescription lenses from Oakley) for about three years. They have been superb until now. Recently, I changed my fit to be much more aero and I ride in the drops most of the time. I find myself looking over the lenses or craning my neck in a really uncomfortable (and anti-aero) position. The problem is partly that they fit too low on my face and perhaps partly that the frame has fairly thick plastic along the brow line.

I'm already using the Asian Fit nose pads (i.e., the larger ones). I called Oakley and they don't have a beefier nose pad than that.

I would prefer to keep these glasses b/c the RX lenses cost a mint. Can anyone think of a fix? Perhaps a way to build up the nose pieces that will endure?

Thanks for your ideas.

Viper

kg, I think you really need to bite the bullet and try on several styles of glasses. When I try on a pair in the store, I literally get into a cycling position and 'see' how much space there is between my cheeks and the lower part of the lens as well:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_fV1pcm1a0HY/TMrZkOWZbmI/AAAAAAAAAKc/eOA_Mm3EJCA/s1600/2010-10-29_09-21-08_525.jpg

M-Frame is my suggestion...Heater etc.

Radar Range are used by Lance when he does Tris of late.

You need more lens.

Thanks. Yeah, I forgot to say that I checked into the M and Radar but Oakley actually embeds a smaller RX lens inside the larger stock lens so you get the same or potentially less viewing area than the Flak Jacket. Apparently, the RX portion stops about 7mm below the top of the stock lens, so I think I would have the same problem.

Rudy Projects have adjustable nose pieces that can be crimped together quite closely and make the frame ride high on the face, but I was amazed at how heavy these things are.
