MUKILTEO - Two students waiting to board a school bus were struck by a car Wednesday morning in Mukilteo.
One was taken to an Everett hospital and was treated and released. The other student was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle with a broken leg and some minor scratches and bruises.
Both are students at Olympic View Junior High.
Police Chief Mike Murphy says the accident happened on the Mukilteo Speedway about eight blocks south of the ferry terminal.
A car that was passing other cars swerved off the road to avoid colliding head-on with the school bus and hit the students as they were waiting to climb on the bus just before 8 a.m.
The car then crashed into trees. The driver was rescued by the Mukilteo Fire Department and taken to an Everett hospital.
Grief counselors were at the school all day Wednesday to help students who were on the bus and witnessed the accident.
Accident investigators from Edmonds and Lynnwood are helping Mukilteo police.
