NYT story (http://www.nytimes.com/2012/05/09/books/maurice-sendak-childrens-author-dies-at-83.html?hp)

I was so very sad (same feelings I had when Jerry died) to read this news earlier today. My childhood, and I have to assume numerous others, just would not have been the same without Maurice's writings. Deep peace Mr. Sendak you won't be forgotten.

I was just going to post those. So classic.

Thanks so much for posting those interviews. I always loved Sendak's books growing up, and it has been our family tradition for many years to go to the Seattle Ballet's Nutcracker every year on Christmas Eve day. (beats going for Chinese food). Sendak designed the production, and it is full of his whimsy and wit.

RIP Maurice.

Today on "Fresh Air" they preempted the scheduled show and devoted the entire 45 minutes to extracts from four interviews Terry had done with him over the years. Quite moving, especially the last one, because you got the feeling he was staring death in the face.

The way he wrote drew you in and made you see that there was more to it that was obvious at first glance..........and once there you could see there were more levels to dig into.

A true talent has passed.

Houston, Clark, Seau, Yauch, Sendak

each one was the face of an era. What's going on this year?
