i'll start:

colnago C40HP ex-Team Navigators bike. ridden by Mark Walters, purchased from team principal Ed Beamon at the Trexlertown swap meet in 2005. was actually ridden by Mark in the 2003 Worlds RR in Hamilton, Ontario...which i had the good fortune of watching in the flesh! little did i know that my bike-to-be was orbiting the course right in front of my eyes...i had the good fortune of tracking down mark and chatting a little about the bike and his career via email.

here's how it looks today, i've made many updates -- only original bits are the frame and brake calipers:

Did you used to post on Tech Talk Forum as Walter? I seem to remember a guy on that board when I read it, that had a lot of colnagos and was named walter.

Nice! I used to post there as Red Ibex, I think. haven't been there in a long time. Sorry for the thread drift, just made the connection. Since I have no ex-pro bikes, I'll shut up now.

I was at that swap and saw those bikes for sale. I was in college at the time and my buddy and I came down from central NY for the swap and a small local two man TT that was being held in the area. Alric Grafur (sp?) Two up Time Trial I think was the name. Navigators was selling off a bunch of those bikes, some with the really sharp Xentis wheels if I remember right. I was lusting over them badly...

Alric Grafur (sp?) Two up Time Trial I think was the name.Alaric Gayfer, British-born cyclist and coach who lived near T-Town until he died of brain cancer.

Hey Wallyman, I've got a pic of your bike in action from the 03 SFGP. Not the world's greatest shot but #48 is the "focus". Check it out, he is rocking a triple.

Not a bike, but does this count? I rescued it from a guy who'd been using it as a commuter.

I had 1997 ex-Team Batik De Rosa Titanio that took me 1000s of miles in the early 2000s. It was ridden by Simone Bertoletti. I bought it thru Alex Clarke at Vintage Velos. He took time to speak to Ugo DeRosa about which bike would fit me and Ugo came up with this one. It was spot on and I rode it comfortably for years before moving along. It's still in town and I see it occasionally.

I have a couple minor-pros bikes.

My '95 Batavus Pro is the ex-frame of the current KNWU (Dutch Cycling Union) director, Thorwald Veneberg, who raced for Rabobank, apparently.

I also have a '91 Panasonic PR-6000 on the way, was ridden for Panasonic-Sportlife by one Eric Knuvers.

about 6 years ago i owned one of bob roll's team issue 7 Eleven bikes. It was badged Murray, made by Serotta, and had 7 speed dura ace parts. the bike was 24 pounds, give or take, and man, was that thing ridden!
bought it for about 1100, sold it a year later for about 1200 to a very, very enthusiastic buyer. only way to tell it was bob's was the BR painted on one of the chain stays. it had other team bits and unique team things on it, but more or less it wasn't a moving billboard, just a matter-of-fact machine.
it was red and white and had a few eagles painted on it for the murray logo. seemed extremely solid, though i never rode it, not my size.
i'll bet that bike, with new tires and brake pads, could go for another 100 years.
if he had one, i'm sure bob would have appreciated a 14.7 pound bike back in the day when he was racing up mountains. yup.
those 7 11 riders are mythic to me. cheers

This one:

... was Mark Renshaw's first pro bike, went back to Peter Teschner when Renshaw started getting his team bikes, was loaned to Graeme Browne in the 2002-03 summer criterium series when he broke his Battaglin, then built up and sold to me in April 2003.

Handbuilt Easton Scandium frame by Peter Teschner, Time monostay carbon rear, various iterations.

mid 90s gazelle aa-special ridden by "guido van der heijning" whom i assume rode for a lesser dutch equipe. it came to me from the netherlands a couple years ago, with supremely worn-out parts. i had the sense this might have been guido's training bike, ridden to log miles and *never* maintained -- this bike had been ridden hard and put away wet

i'd been jonseing for a '70s gazelle, but liked the '90s frame construction a little better. so this was a great opportunity blend a little old with new.

here's the bike when i received it:

here's the bike, post-restoration fitted with old-school super record bits:

What size is Andy's Merckx? Looks like a 55 or 56 seat tube -- TT the same, or a little longer?

pic of my 2011 56cm team lotto bike.i changed the bar from 42 classic to 40cm ergo, and stem from 120 -17 to 11cm -8.still looking for 11cm wcs stem.syntace f119 works for now.
the stickered name on the top tube is Frederik Willems.had never heard of him i'm sure he's plenty fast if they gave him a bike with his name on it :)

I have Olaf Ludwig's old Telekom Merckx. It is a bit of an oddball bike---no tubing decals, a MXL Leader fork and "Corsa Extra" is on the toptube. A friend of mine who was big into racing back in the '90s thinks this is the bike Ludwig rode in the 1994 Paris-Roubaix but I haven't watched the race yet.

Photo of the bike as I received it, the wheels are clinchers so are not likely original to the bike. I have some tubular Shamals that I should throw on it one of these days as they would be period-correct but I just hate how they ride.

Yes, it is in superb shape. I think he hammered on VE-1 or VE-2 that year and kept this one for staring at. It is a full bike and all the other parts hardly show a trace of wear too.
