I am looking at purchasing a early 2000's campy record 10 speed group, the seller claims it is 2004, but that is when they put more carbon on the derailleurs, so I think i have narrowed it down to 2001- to 2003. Is there is a way to tell the difference between each of those years? Or is there almost no difference between the years (ie new brake pad compound).

I just wanted to get some feedback from the forum.

2000 first year of 10s, alu body in RD

2001-carbon body in RD

2002-identical to 2001, said '10s' on the lever body, REcord triple

2003-same as 2002, first year of carbon crank.

so, except for '10s' being on the lever body(2002)...all the Record stuff is the same.

Thanks Peter. How do I tell the difference between a Carolina Wren and a female House Sparrow?

I don't know how closely production followed what was pictured in the catalogs, but here's what they show. 2000 and 2001 catalogs pictured.

The 2000 rear derailleur had a carbon outer link. It appears not to have had the thick clear coat of later models, and the rivet on the bottom side is silver, later ones are black.

2001: Besides the RD differences noted, this was the first year for differential brakes. Dual pivots were also offered, 348g vs. the Differentials 308 g.

2002: Record triple introduced. No changes to double group.

2003: Carbon crank introduced.

2004: FD and RD got carbon cages. 2nd gen. multidirectional fiber carbon crank with sizing on back side of arms. Calipers black. Derailleurs labelled Record Titanium, right Ergo body labelled 10 Ultra.

Battle of the catalogs!!

Yep, 9s was 'standard' in 2000, with alu body RD..10s had the carbon body.

For the OP..no differences between 2001 thru 2003 Record ERGO. And most else Campagnolo.
