Yep i know .. who would want to put their phone on the bars.. well let me explain.. I am not one of those guys that wants to gather all kinds of data.. But once in a while I hear of a good route or download a nice GPX file for a ride that I want to try out. So having an iPhone mount will allow me on these occasions to have a GPS guide without the expense of a Garmin..

So you guys don't need to sell me on a 300 dollar bit of kit that I won't get full use out of. The apps available for the iPhone for GPS nav are really great.. (Yep I know it tends to eat battery.. but my experience gives me almost a full day of riding with the GPS on.)

Who has experience with iPhone mounts which are the good and the bad.. (IPhone 4G) I think I prefer to find one that can sit on the stem..

This one will work on both the bars or stem and not too unsightly.

Note that it says it only works with iPhone 3G. OP was looking for one for the 4G.

Proves what I know about iphones, thought they'd all be the same size.

We sell a number of the drybag style and have the new carbon/plastic mount coming in this week.

it looks quite sturdy and well made.

My LBS is about to carry a pretty well designed one that mounts on the stem via sturdy velcro,is padded and has a screen protector. He is getting a few to T&E for road and mtb'ing. It is large enough for a Droid X2 so should be good for iPhone too. I think he might even have a dedicated iphone model.

I don't have first hand experience but this thing is super cheap and seems to have decent reviews. It's a top cap/iphone mount.

I'm impressed that you get a day out of the iPhone battery with the GPS on. Mine is good for only two or three hours max with Motion-X-GPS.
What apps are you using?

I have the Biologic case and am happy with it.

pros: nice 2nd gen design, water-tight, screen control works through clear membrane cover, access to ports (haven't used).

cons: membrane cover reduces screen visibility somewhat, must buy additional mounts to ease swap among different bikes in stable, no access to volume buttons, must remove phone from any accessory case you're using (very happy with Marware for that) before fitting to the Biologic case.

I would buy the Biologic again. I wanted something watertight that would allow me to carry the phone outside the seatbag / jersey pocket. It works.

This one looks too good to be true. I am strongly considering this one but I still have other bike parts to buy first.
