Amazing! Looks like he almost had to slow down on the last corner to avoid contact with the Kiwi.

I watched that before the Roubaix start -- amazing.

THAT close! . . .

Each one of Hoy's thighs is as big around as my waist!

Not as big as his father's waist. That's Chris twenty years from now unless he's disciplined.

Wow! Watching that move gave me Goose Bumps. Nerves of steel, to match the muscles. Thanks for the post.

I had to watch it 4x in slo-mo to see exactly how he created that opening. And then he kept accelerating to get past some big doods who were killing it... that is astonishing!

As great as Hoy's sprint was, without the New Zealander Van Velthoven opening a large space for him to pass through, he never could have won. Van Velthoven got himself disqualified too.

astonishing is right. i too watched it several times. the mental calculus to do what he did....probably measured in thousandths of a second.

also lucky the guy in black didn't shut the door. momentum carrying him upward, all hoy needed was about 8" of wiggle room.

unreal. and all done at speed.

Van Velthoven got himself disqualified too.

But note that it was not for "letting" Hoy through. He got relegated for coming down on Kenny after the derny pulls off, and had a warning from a previous heat. Two infractions is a DQ.
Watch closely and see Van Velthoven move up track due to the physics (really difficult to stay down at that speed) and a slight normal-in-a-keirin nudge from Hoy coming through.
Sure, if Van Velthoven had stayed down Hoy could not have come though legally as he could not go under Levy.
