I thought last year's model was expensive. I'm not even sure how to process this pup!

And since your shopping at CC, you might as well add these wheels (http://www.coloradocyclist.com/common/products/productdisplay2_v2.cfm?PRRFNBR=32431&CGRFNBR=335&CRPCGNBR=335&CI=1,224,335&TextMode=0) to you cart :D

I paid $610 for a Cannondale with 600 & Dura Ace in 1986. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay almost that much for a GD jacket.

I once tried on the Gator jacket (what this model replaces) and started sweating within a minute....I wasn't even on the bike at this point!

But when your riding in the conditions neccessary for this sort of gear...it's worth every cent!

Right, but how much better can it be than the gator? I bought a slightly used Gator last year for under $200, which was a ton of money to begin with. But I can ride that jacket with a light jersey in the single digit temperatures and it's too hot at freezing or above. Colder than that, and I don't want to ride anyway. They sold new for what, $350? So what MORE does the nearly $200 extra buy you with this jacket? Unbelievable.

i was thinking the same thing- I ride with an old PI winter jacket- I think it was $150 5-6 years ago. . . I would have to ask. . .how much colder temps would I want to ride in. . . I have been out many times in single digit temps- my toes go numb- so do my fingers- my lungs hurt from the cold- and sometimes my water bottle freezes- but my torso is NEVER cold-

but hey I am sure they will sell tons of them

All kidding aside, I use a Voler winter jacket our club got.

Perfectly comfortable down to any temperature I am willing to ride in (something around 30).

i am at a loss, i can not possible C how this cycling-prada apparel
could be any better than my contractors grade trash bag + salvation
army sweat shirt ensemble.

i have written clodorado cyclist and assos asking to have them me send the list of all purchasers of this product. i have some swamp land in louisiana to sell them.

oh, but wait, i am not to criticize or poke at anything 'til i've tried it.

The assos stuff is generally great and I've got a bunch of it all purchased at least 1 year out of date at considerable discounts. But a $550 jacket sounds to me a little like an $8000 frameset.

I'm loath to admit the ASSOS winter wear works. I like my hero Christophe buy it from places like Ireland 1-2 yrs. out of date and at a deep discount which makes it only overpriced still. Their windblocker winter fabric makes a ride in winter something to look forward to.

...and yeah, the price is a lost leader ment to convince you that value exists in all their (lowe priced) products.

while I think $500 is rediculous, when it comes to the difference between riding on a trainer or riding outside, I'll take outside anyday........in addition, I have a 2 year old Assos Windbloc jacket/top that I probably spent too much on, but I can wear it down to about 22 degrees with nothing on under it but a long sleeve craft undershirt. I've had it two years, worn it almost every weekend it's been cold, and it looks brand new.....these things wear like iron. Even at over $200 the cost per mile has been pretty cheap.

But $500 is even hard for me to justify.

Josh, you're my hero too.

I tell anybody who will listen that the airblock tights are the greatest winter tights ever made. The fit, their light weight and the way they keep you warm and your knees functioning even when it is cold and wet are unmatched. I've bought many winter tights but these are head and shoulders above anything else. I've got two pairs, one that got a little shredded in a February incident on Sauvie Island that also partially tore my right lateral collateral ligament (since healed), and the replacement pair that I got from bike tires direct at a deep discount.

Josh, I might be looking for a racing tandem this winter. My old fillet brazed Rodriguez is an awesome bike but its really a touring bike. Its very heavy, 7 speed and it has low bottom brackets, which were a real handicap in the state crit championship. The race had very little let up and we averaged almost 30mph. We were coasting more than the other teams and I just couldn't make up our losses with better lines. It was a very well ridden race by all of the teams.

What would you recommend? Are the cannondales any good? The co-motions look nice, as does Glen Gann's new Landshark. Any ideas?

You get a cute blonde named Heidi who wakes you up on those cold January mornings by whispering in your ear, she helps you into your gear, she massages you after the ride and then gives you a sponge bath........

Where did I put that dang catalogue... ;)

what does the extra $200 get you?

a certificate of appreciation from the swiss gov't., thanking you for helping to underwrite the cost of healthcare in switzerland.

Oh, the extra $200 gets you....absolutely nothing if the clothing your wearing fits your needs.

I mentioned the jacket to the Assos boys down here, they said they will not even import it...the Gator is too warm for Australia let along that thing!

However my comment was made about ALL winter gear, I only wear my thermal (Assos Airjack) top 25 times a year (I ride 330 days a year) but when I wear it I always think it's money well spent.

$200 on a Gator is great value if you use/need it, $10 is a waste on a Gator Jacket if you don't!

There is probably some guy in Iceland thinking "great, Assos finely made something for MY winter mornings!"

I'll take two!!

Then I'll sell off the jackets...someone gets a "good" deal and I put a down payment on a Rock, Kirk, Mooney, or Serotta of my choice. Ahhhhhhhh, a little lower girls. :D
