My '85 trek "beating around the city" road bike has the most uncomfortable lever/hoods. I want to upgrade to make my milk runs more comfortable. Can i get some suggestions on levers/hoods that are comparable to current brifter offerings? Remember this is a beater, with a beater budget for upgrades.

Pretty much any tektro drop bar levers are going to be affordable and comfy.

+3 on Tektro. The R200's are getting a bit hard to find but I like them alot.

I find old 105SC/ 600 6400 SLR levers pretty comfy but YMMV.

I don't know whether it is sad or funny that these are referred to as being close to the "old" Campy .....

agreed.

The Shimano 105SC etc are pretty narrow bodies, but comfortable, except the hoods have a habit of rolling up annoyingly from the bar end as the get a bit old. Currently seeking replacements.

Pretty close to unanimous. Tektro levers. Very aero, very nice ergo shape, not very expensive. Have some on one of my bikes, and they are nice.

I like my cane creeks.
On a side note, I have a set of 105 SC levers that are floating around my parts bin ill sell? Cosmetic condition is used, HEAVILY, but they work great and hoods are fine. PM if interested?

I had these on an old Team Fuji: Link (http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=34840)

Cheap — and like others said, almost Campy in shape. Really nice.

man, i hated the tektro's that came on my langster when i had it..

for my capo I used sram s900 -- i guess it's just a preference in the shape..

Soma has a made-by-Tektro lever as well.

A bit more money than the 340, the main difference I can see is that it is offered in two different reach lengths and it says 'Soma' instead of 'Tektro' :)

I'm a fan of the aero Shimano levers, but that's just me. The Tektros are nice if a little fat.

What type of bar do you have? Are the ramps "flat" or do they have more of a drop?
