I like that "fork" and "rear triangle" are enclosed in quot. marks.

Even in 1989 80% of bikes sold in the US were coming from Taiwan. This surprised me. I think we often have the tendency to believe that outsourcing is a relatively recent phenomenon.

I remember my CSI fully built up with 8-speed Record, TTT stem and bars, Mavic Open 4CD wheelset, ladies Terry saddle--cost me $3400 in 1996.

In 1989 the NATIONAL DEBT was about 2.85 Trillion.

Today, about 15 Trillion ...

15/2.85 = 5.2

so the 1989 2k top of line Serotta is now 10K, which is about right .....

Kinda amazing how despite all the gyrations of the politicians, financial
engineers, and "do gooders" it all comes out in the wash.

That's fun.

The article was done right before I started working there in 1989 and the photos bring back a lot of memories from that time.

The guy shown in the upper left, Keith (aka 'Chief'), was a key player at Serotta for many years and he rarely gets acknowledged for that. He is one of the most skilled fabricators I've ever met and has a sense of humor that made working with him one long laughing fit. He taught me so much in my early years there and I can't thank him enough for that. I hope he is well.

Thanks for posting the article.

Cool to see the list prices: $730 for the Davis Phinney, $950 for the Nova Spl. X, and $1260 for the Colorado. Also production numbers of 800 frames in 1988, with 1000 the goal for 1989. Thanks for digging this up William.
