I searched but didn't find anything on this. X-7 / X-9 / X.0 RD instructions say compatible shifters are 1:1 trigger or twist, but don't mention bar end. I see no reason this shouldn't work, but perhaps I'm missing something. Is anyone running SRAM bar end shifters with a MTB RD? Will the front shifter shift a MTB FD on a triple crank?

The pull ratio is different for SRAM and Shimano so you would have to have a SRAM barend for consistant index shifting. I've never seen one.
In other words, a click pulls a different cable length for a SRAM than Shimano.

You could use barend in friction mode with potential range issues.

If you use a sram 10 speed bar end shifter and a 10 speed rear der. (MTB or road) it should work fine. You can not however use a 9speed rear der. with 10 speed shifters, they have a different pull ratio.

Shimano is a whole different animal

All their '10s' stuff is compatible, unlike shimano(10s STI not compatible with MTB 10s RD) so yep, w/o knowing it,(maybe they did, I donno), they made a 10s touring group. barends, MTB RD, great big 10s cogset.

That's what I assumed: that they had compatible parts for a touring group but were just ignoring, or ignorant of, the admittedly small market. Thanks
