A friend is producing a series of videos showcasing cycling climbs in the mid-Hudson valley of New York. The videos provide a good look at these cycling gems. The first two videos include quiet country roads in the southeast Catskills and the Shawangunks - all great cycling routes. Although its a bit difficult to truly feel the degree of slope in the videos, they do present a good preview .

I've read some books about the RAAM and recently saw The Ride. While there are bigger and steeper mountain ranges, the Appalachians really get to the riders. Looks like the Catskills would be the same. Those roads just keep going on. It seems like a great place to ride - how's the traffic?

The traffic on the roads in these two videos is minimal.

Ray, let's make sure we get to ride some of these roads this season!!

Road surface looks poor, so be prepared, didn't see too many houses and may not be cel reception (take two tubes)

That's part of the fun. First your speeding, then your bleeding.
