I have one, have had it for a long time and used to use it on automotive stuff mainly for taking things off. The principle difference between mine and an air driven impact wrench is that the torque isn't adjustable - at least it's not on mine - so for some things there's too much torque and for some, too little.

i have a cheapie from harbor freight. Use it on the car all the time. Don't have much to say other than that it works.

My friends use them at race tracks for swapping wheels.

I've got one too. Don't remember the brand though. Use it on lug nuts all the time. Only off, never on!

Impact driver or impact wrench? The drivers are usually cordless, with a 1/4" hex chuck...great for screws, not for lug nuts...

I used a cordless 18v Milwaukee impact driver at the track for years (SCCA IT)...worked really well, and made plenty enough torque to break free 90#+.

Somewhere between the wall outlet and my impact wrench there's a compressor and a 20 gallon tank...
