Hello forum; Question: What are some of the deepest aero rims non carbon?
EA 50? Reynolds?
Thanks

Edit: I am looking for non carbon clinchers with the deepest possible rim

HED Jet Express use a C2 (I believe) Scandium rim with a +/- 50mm carbon fairing bonded to them.

You can also get HED Jet6FR's which use the Scandium rim and a 60mm carbon fairing.

Non-carbon as in you want an aluminum brake track....Or, non-carbon as in you want zero carbon as part of the rim structure?

In a strictly aluminum rim, the H+Son EERO is 43.3333mm tall......Now, they weigh as much as a small child, but they're fairly deep.

Maybe some Velocity aeroheads, or Mavic CXP33s, Sun Venus? Those are all about the same depth -- you can't make a deep aluminum extrusion bend into a tight circle without getting wavy deformations or crimps. It just isn't possible to make a really deep aero rim out of aluminum, which is why HED uses the bonded carbon fairing on a shallow aluminum rim (and some other rim makers use that trick too).

Like a 42-ish mm deep, aluminum rim rolled into a 650c size?

H+SON EERO is 43mm deep. Mavic CXP30 and Velocity Deep V are about 30mm deep. I have some 24h/28h CXP30s laced to DA7700 hubs if you are interested.

Kinlin makes a 38mm deep rim. So does Velocity. It is for bike polo and is 700 grams.. Alex has some really deep rims on their website but I've never seen them in person or even at a distributor.

Velocity B43 are 43mm deep. I've only seen them on single speed or fixed-gear bikes, and usually only on the rear.

SOUL 4.0's are pretty deep (and awesome):

Yep, I forgot to mention that in my original post. Weight is not a big issue. (As long as they don't weigh 3000g :)

You can hunt around for some NOS Campy Atlanta rims. I've seen 'em on the bay anywhere from 120 or so up to 600. From the Campy Only site:

Atlanta

This is the top of the line wind cheater from Campy. The rim weight is a hefty 590 grams. The width if the rim is a thin 19mm and the aero depth is 34mm. This rim is targeted for the time trial or lone rider that is willing to run a skinny sub 23mm tire. You can run any tire you like, but a 20 or 19mm tire will not leave the rim peaking out to plow throught the wind like a wider rim. If you are riding as a single for timed events this may be your rim. The draw backs are the cross wind characteristics are not very good and the ride can be harsh with narrow tires. The benefits are lower wind drag. The rims comes in a single color which is a high polished aluminum with HPW side walls.

They're not super-deep, but Cosmic Carbones have all-AL brake tracks and rims and a non-structural CF fairing (at least the type I have). Not the lightest out there, but lots of folks who've ridden a lot more than I think that they're among the very best.

HED has full discs w/ Al rims (and carbon fairings). Is that deep enough? ;)

American Classic has some all-AL wheels with pretty deep rims.

QBP offers a handbuilt wheelset with H+Son 42mm aluminum rims, DT Aerolite spokes, and Formula hubs.

Weight for the set is just under 1700 grams.

amclassic 420s are 34mm deep, not bad but really narrow and in my experience pretty sensitive in crosswinds. light and lively in moderate winds, though:

I know there is a following for Kinlin rims, I see they have a 38mm deep rim now.

Not sold as a rim AFAIK, but Mavic Cosmics use an aluminum rim with carbon fairing to achieve 52mm tall rim. This wheel always gets great feedback.

Or if you look at the Cosmic Elite, it's all aluminum and at least 30mm tall.

First thought after looking up those QBP wheels is that they must ride like rocks - radial spoke pattern, 42mm tall Al rims, 20 spokes=high tension.

I own the Handspun front wheel, and bought a matching H+Son rim to build onto a Campy hub that I had laying around.

The build quality of the front wheel is excellent. Very true and round with even tension on all spokes. The rear rim built up just as nicely.

I have a few hundred miles on my set. The black anodizing on the brake tracks completely wore off after a few rides. Unfortunately there's no way to avoid it. It just looks like a silver machined brake track now, similar to the Soul 4.0's on the previous page. Not a bad thing, but FYI.

My set came in right around 1800 grams (I used heavier spokes and brass nipples on the rear). I really like the way that they ride: they feel solid and - once you get them up to speed - feel as though they just want to keep rolling. I think they take a little more effort to accelerate than my 1500 gram wheelset, but not so much that it's detrimental.

For reference, I'm 6'-5" and 190 pounds. My wheels are built with 20 radial front spokes and 24 2-cross rear both sides. Having previously owned a set of American Classic 420's (weighing 1400 grams with CX-Ray spokes), I much prefer the H+Son wheels.

Did they really build up to 1800g? The rims alone are 1200g together. I usually calculate for 32 spokes, so that must make up the weight difference.

I don't have my build sheet anymore, but I think the breakdown was something like this (plus or minus 10 grams):

FRONT: 805 grams
Rim: 600
Hub: 100
Spokes: 100
Nipples: 5

REAR: 1000 grams
Rim: 600
Hub: 250
Spokes: 125
Nipples: 25
