Looks like they gave a city official a cut rate on a Merckx in exchange for selling the city some bikes. Ooops.

A discount on a Merckx is some petty "corruption".

Wow, I've seen plenty of Foreign Corrupt Practices Act cases involving giving the government official things like a Ferrari, a lucrative "consulting fee" for acquiring a contract for oil drilling rights, and even clearing markers totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars at Las Vegas casinos. But getting indicted for giving a police chief a "favorable price" for a bike in exchange for competitors' bidding information for a 48-bike contract? That's a bit strong.

Sounds like a deal to me! I guess it's insider trading to some extent since he could modify the bikes to come below the others cost to win the bid.

From Google Translate version of original news story:
"The bikes were fitted bike brigade police Anderlecht. It was expected to pay on Fund budget of traffic fines. There were two deliveries Merckx bikes.

According to Diouf, the second choice in 2007 was necessary because no longer buy bicycles Merckx would have created jealousy among the officers, who would Merckx bikes and others."

So those cops do know their bikes!

I feel surprisingly shameful for opening this thread and expecting to read about an actual cannibal...

As penance you must do ten sets of hill repeats. Then memorize the particulars -- including geometry -- of MXLs, Corsas and Corsa Extras for all relevant years.

Everybody else was doing it. These overzealous prosecutors should stop hounding Eddy. He has done so much good in fighting, well, whatever it is he's been fighting. He's never tested positive and so I just can't believe he would every do anything like this. Let the haters hate. I stand by Eddy!

This sounds all too familiar, but I have a question.
I don't recognize Anderlecht -- where in New Jersey is it?

It´s sad... being Belgium, you´d think these cops would be the ones attempting to bribe Merckx into selling them some bikes...please. Doesn´t seem like much of a case, but may still be annoying and stressful for the old man.
