Keep in mind tire size, put on your thinking caps (http://now.msn.com/entertainment/0319-funny-mph-video.aspx) and rack your brains.

"Some people's tires go faster than others.."

Wow..

Smart is great, dumb is fine, dumb who think they're smart are dangerous/frightening. Unfortunately, all too common. No comment on the ad for Utah's predominant social/economic/cultural/religious entity which came before the video.

Everyone knows that science is way overrated.

Even my sixth graders could do that (I hope)

That is a true statement. ;)

William may get me in trouble since I had to post that on FB. I might have people calling me all sorts of things.

If a semi is going 80mph and a Fiat 500 is going 80mph, they both are going the same speed and will be even. Rolling resistance isn't accounted in this whole thing haha.

can't be real. can it...? really???

Yeah, hard to believe that's real. If it is, he's the asshole counterpoint to her idiot. Or is it the other way around?

It’s a trick question because it doesn’t differentiate between speed and velocity. If they travel at 80 MPH in circles after an hour they may have gone nowhere. They are both idiots.

Kind of what I was thinking. Jokes on us if she really isn't that stupid. If she's not that smart, he's an ass for posting the vid to YT.

I was semi-joking. (get it, semi-joking?)

I was defining "go faster" as RPM, and clearly the wheel RPMs will be higher for cars with smaller tires (at the same vehicle speed).

My point is that someone might be thinking about something differently than you, but still be correct. All depends on how you define things.

Ah, you're right as well :) I think in different terms.

That's not as tricky as "If bacon is $4 per pound how much does a pound of bacon cost?" This problem is harder for me because once I start thinking about bacon all other thoughts are forced from my mind. MMMMM, BLT w/mayo and

I think the joke's on us. That can't be real. The woman is doing a great job with her acting skills.

That said, I have certainly come across that type of logic processing in students. Some people seem unable to put things into mathematical terms, so they make it personal, anecdotal, or whatever. They'll take any path to solve a math problem, so long as it does not include math.

Louis

I think the joke's on us. That can't be real.

I have no information one way or the other, but I think it's possible that someone who just doesn't think in those terms would be unable to intuit that D = R x t (which is essentially what her husband is asking her to do).

As you said, they find other ways to get to an approximate answer.

i honestly think the whole is a prank on those of us that invested emotions and time in it. kind of similar to the now infamous, but very old jessica simpson "buffalo wing" thing.

. . . then they both have some real problems far more serious than just figuring out the answer to this "math problem."

This is the same idiot, filming while driving, rolls through stop signs while the poor biker is rolling into the intersection, no stop sign, and gets bent out of shape because we have right of way

I hope he gets a ticket :crap:

Hopefully they are not going to breed

I'm surprised to be the first to suggest this: She was on something. I have a fair amount of experience being the only sober person in the room, and drunk/high people do that, have circular, nonsensical conversations with themselves.

Muscle relaxers maybe, or a couple cosmos and an oxycontin over lunch. Something.

Just heard this morning the average older female teenager now receives 100 text messages a day. So the real math problem is how much time does that leave for them to learn anything really useful to improve our society in a meaningful way? Will they have time to learn math beyond basic arithmetic, history, geography, politics, and so on?

My thoughts exactly.
But then I think about who wins elections (or at least leads in polling), and it seems plausible.
BTW, what did they have written in the back driver's-side window?
