I'm building up a dirt-road bike for my wife, who has decided that her Vanilla is too nice for bombing around in the dirt.

She would prefer something like a 50-40-30 130/74 bcd triple with 165mm crank arms. What's available?

I can get the Sugino XD600 but it's 110bcd with stock 46-36-26 rings. Would work, and probably the option I'll go for if nothing else works. Rest of the bike will be Campy 10.

Here are the other considerations:
- Silver
- Doesn't look like an alien squid (e.g. Shimano)
- Not FSA
- Not SRAM

I am willing to buy new or used and can troll ebay for a few months too; this is primarily for D2R2.

Sounds like TA, Sugino, and vintage Campy are my only options.

Contact Oldpotatoe: He might be able to tell you if the T/A Specialities has a setup you can use. I use T/A rings for replacements on my Centaur and got a 50/39/26 for my XC bike that fit perfectly on my Campy crank arms.
I have TA Cranks on my 1969 Cinelli Supercoursa and never had problems.

Replacement rings for the XD600 110/74 would work perfectly well. You can't notice that the bolt circle is 110 rather than 174 on a tandem, and the forces on a crank and chain rings are ever so much stronger there.

I have a TA Zephyr on one of my bikes, and I know that a Carmina would work. It's just really, really, really expensive.

I think I've decided to look for a Shimano Ultegra/600 6206 vintage crank. That is good looking, JIS square taper (cheap UN54s will work), and will look right on the bike.

I'd go with a used crank and put whatever rings on you want.

Last time I did this I used an old Ultegra crank I had and got the rings that made sense to me at Harris Cyclery in Boston. I lived in Boston at the time, but I'm sure they would mail them out or you can find another source for loose rings.

bonktown has been blowing out the ultegra triple every now and then for the last few months in 165. if you can tolerate shimano, keep your eye on them.
