as much as i love king, i would get a phil wood hub. bomb proof. but pricey..

Bomb proof is my main consideration...

white industries are light, affordable, beautiful, quiet and made in the USA. They also have super nice titanium freehub bodies.

And they last forever... I've had mine (non-disc) since the mid-90's. Still riding smooth and in weekly use.

I've seen many of your builds Mr. Bicycle/Tricycle...you have excellent taste. Heading to the White Industries page. I'm also a fan of silent bikes...so that sorta gives King hubs the boot.

I went with the King and it has run flawlessly; also made in USA.I will say that I also own several sets of WI hubs and they have also been fantastic.

Can't beat WI in this area. Their freewheels are real nice too.

I've been using the Chris King Singlespeed hub for the last four years with no issues what-so-ever.

I had a few of the King hubs over the years and I think they actually get quieter over time.

Both companies make really reliable SS hubs. Ergott built me a Project321 29er set on Crest rims and they've been bomb proof so far. They use the I9 internals so reliability shouldn't be a issue.

I have only experience on my king ss disc hub. I love it, and have been riding it since 2005. Only had to have it adjusted once after the initial break in, and then have had it cleaned/maintained only twice. I love it.

i ride the WI with the WI freewheel on my 26" ss. It's a thing of beauty. Not the same engagement as hadley/ king/I9 but i've never felt the need for more. Also, the SS is a thread on, so it, like a phil or a paul, doesn't have a 'freehub' in the sense that king/hadley/i9 do. Also, i've never run a phil but a non disc paul rear hub is the most heavily abused hub i've had and has never given me an issue.

this might not help but i don't think you're going to be disappointed with any of those, they're all top of the line.

King, Industry 9 or DT- the only real choices for ease of swapping out cogs.

Have had a WI and a Paul hub- nice stuff- but when a freewheel gets on way tight and you need to pull it off the night before the big dance and you do not have your cheater bar on the road...

Swapping cogs is easier than swapping freewheels.

Phil=boat anchor. Nice stuff, but boat anchor.

Fairwheelbikes put out a video of a pretty loud WI hub.

Is their disc SS hub constructed different (or packed with more grease from their factory)?

I am sure there is a way to expedite the silencing, but they are beautiful, bomb proof, and a nicer (to my ears) note than the Kings.
