I have some possibly used vittoria pave evo cg tubulars I got with some wheels and they are kind of dirty from storage. I was thinking of tossing them in the tub and scrubbing them with a brush/sponge and maybe some dish soap to get all the dirt off the tires before mounting. There appears to be no glue on the basetape. Is this a terrible idea or am I just freaking out about nothing here...
Thanks in advance,
Donald

1st time I heard somebody wishing to do this. Just use a sponge or a wet rag.

wash away donald - they're rubber tires, they wont melt.

I'd skip the soap, but otherwise you should be fine. I've heard they get wet in vivo.
Let 'em dry really well before gluing...

they are really really dirty!! but yeah im single
You should wash them in beer.
The carbonation makes them lighter & faster.
Srsly.

I probably would not. Concern about the base tape and water. Would just wipe tires down with damp cloth. After they are glued on good, maybe use a wetter rag if still dirty looking.

If the base tape is clean I agree with Ralph. If the base tape is dirty, then you should probably clean it as best you can.
Caveat: I'm not a tubular expert.
