...are you sure that one is Climb? If so, he finished just a few places behind Rob Young, a guy I ride with a lot. Rob was riding with a low gear of 24x32. I wonder if he needed all of it? I wonder if they gave each other moral support on the way up.

Jeez, what a bugger that ride must be!

tyler, top 10 - get it? guess one should not joke about race results anyway, he should be happy with that result, about twice that of a world champion and what 14+ years older, good result I say.

Finishing is an amazing result in my book. I've done climbs less than half that distance with similar grades and got my butt handed to me. To just survive that brute is quite an achievement!

The number 5 finisher is an absolutely outstanding cyclo cross racer who works in my LBS - watch out for big things from him - note how young he is vs. the top finishers around him.

Isn't he serving a suspension? Suspensions should roll down hill,if you are suspended from competing internationally, you should also not be allowed to race domesticly either.

He's suspended from UCI sanctioned events, Mt. Washington is not a UCI event.

Understood Roy, but what's the point? A guy gets cought cheating in the UCI ranks and gets suspended, so he goes to events that do not have a UCI sanction and wins. Is Mt. Washington run with a U.S.Pro/ USCF permit? If U.S. Pro is affliated with the UCI he should not be allowed in their events either.

I agree with you 110%.

Isn't the 11 pound bike well under the UCI limit as well?

Great job Climb.

It's interesting comparing the times between the bikers and the runners who competed on the same road in June.

http://nhruns.freeservers.com/results/05/Jun18_45thMountWashington_7_6M_finres.html

The top runner was a little over nine minutes behind Tyler but would have placed 7th in the bike race. The top runner in the 40-49 year old age group was faster than the top biker in the same cataglory.

No license required. Anyone who buys a ticket can race. It's a good thing he didn't break the record this year. Too much speculation and doubt would shadow the record.

Congratulations on finishing the event! The weather looked a little dodgy, is that right?

FWIW, this guy is part of my regular crew at work:

And yes he likes to ride uphill :)

Aimee is anything but a flatlander. I worked with her last year and did her bike set-up when she won the first time. You may not have heard of Aimee before because she's riding without a team and she can't compete in the big stage races without one. I hope she lands a spot on a strong team next season so she can live up to her potential as a GC rider.

major props to quebecois framebuilder giuseppe marinoni
for a stellar result in the overall considering his age of 67.
he was 338th OVERALL.

to quote robbie robertson after muddy waters' gig in
the film, the last waltz: ain't that a man?!

Ti - I didn't say I hadn't heard of her...I just think it's interesting because so many cyclists from Michigan seem allergic to hills and she obviously isn't.

I bet the reason why we have not heard from Climb after his great job is that he is still waiting for me and Sandy to get to the top. He does not realize that we bagged it after 1 mile and instead went to the local donut shop.

Sounds like a brutal day for the ride - this came from a guy on another forum I sometimes visit who finished in about 1:48 yesterday, just a bit ahead of Climb:

Fun day on the Rockpile

Well for accuracy sake I didn't ride the new Serotta as reported by Wheels, but set up the funky gearing on the old Serotta. Congrats the fast guys on great rides.

Based on conversations I think the wind picked up considerably as time went on (I was in the last group, starting 15-20 minutes behind the fast guys, and of course it took us much longer to get up), and when I got above treeline the wind in spots was nearly unrideable. It was the hardest riding I have seen in 11 times up.

I was blown off the bike twice, at the beginning of the 5 mile grade and again after the 6 mile mark, before the hairpin. Each time I had to walk pretty far before I could get going again - wind, steep slope, wet dirt. So my time doesn't represent much except survival. Each time I walked a while, tried a remount that failed, walked some more, tried again and got going. After flopping around once and hearing some commentary (which may have been about something else) I was a bit concerned about taking someone out behind me.

When I tried to remount at the hairpin, I got into the pedal but was blown straight across the road and had to dismount to keep from going over the edge (we're talking the outside of a hairpin here). That was so weird that I looked at my fork and bars to see if something was bent, but the bike was straight, just the wind was crooked.

Actually I felt great the first 4 miles, and when I was able to ride on the second half, but the wind just stood me up and knocked me down, then I didn't get back on very fast. At times the fog rolled in and you could barely see in front of you. From conversations with the fast guys who went through a half hour or more before, they seemed to get wind, but not as bad. Stuff changes real quick up there, and gusts are real localized.

Signs seen painted on truck windows: "Tyler is innocent" "Free Tyler" "Pound is a Pig" and "Pound Pound."

Oh yeah. When I was walking on the 5 mile grade, I came by the guy filming the video. He filmed me walking, and dramatically intoned "12%, 4700' climbing, will do that to you." I felt like saying "shut up, you a**hole" but instead said the grade was fine, the problem was I got blown off and hadn't got back on. Then I got to a point where the grade let up a bit, and was able to remount and get going, all of which he filmed. So that may be an amusing feature of the vdeo.

I was wondering why my buddy Rob finished a couple of minutes slower than his SO did last year - he's typically a good deal stronger than she is.
