Tom Ritchey built his first frames in 1972, making this his 40th year of framebuilding. To celebrate, he’ll be bringing to NAHBS the first of 40 classic Ritchey frames hand built by the man himself. They’ll feature special 40th anniversary paint and graphics and include a few new builds using vintage tubing.
Wanna get your hands on one? The first four frames will be up for auction, with proceeds benefitting various charities. The first one goes up for auction at NAHBS, the others will be staggered throughout the year:
First (60cm road classic frame/fork) to be auctioned off at NAHBS (via Ebay). Starting price $3500. If it goes above $10k, Tom will offer a full custom frame, road or mountain, instead. Proceeds going to Team Rwanda.
Second (model uncertain, possibly P-20 or Everest mountain frame) to be auctioned off. Starting price $3500. If it goes above $10k, Tom will a full custom frame, road or mountain, instead. Proceeds going to NICA
Third (model uncertain, possibly P-20 or Everest mountain frame) to be auctioned off. Starting price $3500. If it goes above $10k, Tom will offer a full custom frame, road or mountain, instead. Proceeds going to Trips For Kids.
Fourth (model uncertain, possibly P-20 or Everest mountain frame) to be auctioned off. Starting price $3500. If it goes above $10k, Tom will offer a full custom frame, road or mountain, instead. Proceeds going to Christmas Bike Program (details pending).
Another 36 anniversary frames (a mix of P-20’s and Everest’s) will be sold at $2500 each throughout the year. The photo above is the brazed seat tube joint on special edition numero uno. Also at NAHBS, they’ll show a fillet brazed version of the new production Road Logic frame and a pre-production version of a new Breakaway Tandem. For the unfamiliar, his Breakaway frames are the full size folding travel bikes. So yes, he’s making a full size folding travel tandem.
