The wife and I were running errands and wound up in Marina Del Rey where we dropped in to Chipotle's to have lunch. I recognized Rahsaan Bahati sitting at another table with a small group of friends. My wife ( who couldn't care less about cycling ) goaded me into approaching him. He and his friends were genuinely nice and couldn't have been nicer and more charming to me and my wife. He even invited me to go on his group ride ( as if I could hang for more than 10 minutes). I just made a contribution to his foundation.

What can I say? It doesn't take much to thrill me.

I don't know how often he gets recognized, but it's great that he took the time to chat with you and make the offer to tag along. Some athletes were notorious for doing the opposite. I think we all know who they are.

I did some work a few years ago for Rock Racing and got to spend a few days around the team leading up to the Harlem Crit.

Hearing the stories and reading articles, I was expecting the worst. But Rahsaan, Freddy and Tyler were part of a fun bunch to hang around with, lacking any attitude.

After a while you get to realize that pros are people too!

I was a stoplight last week and recognized a Bissel Pro rider who did pretty well in the US Pro Tour Challenge last year. I congratulated him for it and he was effusive. Many of these guys don't get much in the way of recognition and it makes for a really nice interaction when they see how much we appreciate them.

Bahati is a classy dude. :hello:

Some of you might remember when he campaigned a few years ago to help raise $ for then-teammate Justin Williams, who lost a bunch of teeth in a bad crash. Neither the team nor michael ball would pay for it (no dental insurance). So Bahati and teammates donated race winnings to help offset the cost, and set up a fund for the public to contribute.

(bad karma will def. pay michael ball a visit someday, in this lifetime or next.)

he should be forced to wear his own clothing for eternity.

Isn't that what LA does?

I don't want to be the spelling police here, I just thought maybe of re-naming the thread to either:

Rahsaan Bahati sitting

or

Rahsaan Bahati sighting

or

Rahsaan Bahati eating a burrito
:)

Rahsaan was here in Atlanta a bunch a couple of summers ago. He was out at the Thursday night ride a few times and was extremely friendly.

Okay, okay, I fixed it. At least I spelled Rahsaan right ( I think ).
