No pics to show for it, but I got out for 28 miles yesterday and another 31 today. They weren't fast and they weren't dramatic--just working on keeping the base over the winter.

But I've lived in upstate NY for 20 years now and NEVER ridden outdoors two days in a row in mid-February. Sunny both days, 40 yesterday and 37 today.

Unbelievable.

Excellent Dave- we need some good cycling content today. I too have no pics to show, but had two great days of fixed riding around the area this weekend. Despite a bunch of time off, felt very strong out there, good stuff.

graham hills early in the morning...about 35 degrees so the muck was still mostly frozen over...took a quick pic while taking a breather on the big hill

pretty sure i was the only one out there that early...no epic fails, so a great ride!

Rode both Saturday and Sunday...

... have 500 miles in since the first of the year, which is insane. That's well over double anything I've done before to this point in the winter.

OTOH, I've only been cross country skiing twice.

It's so dry. We had pantloads of rain for Irene and Lee, but nothing really since then. The riding is great now but I'm sure we are going to pay for the lack of snow/moisture this coming summer.

WL,

That is one sweet looking sheep my friend.

Enjoyed 30 plus miles on the Flash 29er on Sat. Had a week off due the worst flu I've had in a long time.

Ran 6.5 miles on the single track Sunday.

So far I've ridden an ER chair and the MD's office dealing with my wife's burned hand.

She forgot that the pan she was reaching for with the Shrimp Scampi in it had just come out of the oven (using gloves) and after getting the cheese grated turned and picked up the pan again - this time without gloves.

3rd degree burns on her palm and 2nd degree burns on every finger pad.

Fortunately the blisters are all separated on each pad and do not cross joint lines so she probably won't need any skin surgery, just a while to heal.

Appointment with hip specialist tomorrow to determine course of action for my FAI. If surgery is the direction it will be a matter of which part of the season I want to lose, early and my charity event ride, middle, or cyclocross?

FUn, fun, fun.

Got a nice ride in yesterday, which is very unusual for February. Skied my arse off on Friday, which is normal for February. Its like living out west.

Bruce- sorry to hear about your wife... my wife had ankle surgery a couple weeks back so is in a cast for a few more weeks... and we have a 3 y/o, so who do you think is looking after her (gladly BTW)... so not a lot of riding for me so far this year...

BUT, I did get out Saturday for a nice ride on the Coast Hwy...

I think I may have officially Overdone It this weekend: 17 miles of solo interval training on Thursday, 23 mile (round trip) commute on Friday, 55 mile group ride Saturday, 50 mile group ride Sunday, 85 mile group ride today. I'm toast.

Did a few miles in the Santa Monica Mountains above Malibu yesterday, including a fairly killer climb. Got about 100 yards up the hill when I realized that I'd forgotten to swap out my 43 ring for a 39, so ended up climbing it in 43/23, which was... not fun. The descents are a blast, but bitterly cold. Here's a view from the top of the hill, looking west toward the Pacific.

had 4 great rides this holiday weekend, including finding a bit of snow atop Mt Hamilton in San Jose, CA. mind you, it was 70F on Friday when i did this, how the snow didn't melt away i don't know, but it was an interesting contradiction of temperatures...

Rode 45 mi on Fri, 60 mi Sun and 40 mi today Monday in Julian and there's still snow by the road side on Engineers Road. Hardly any traffic, no stop lights, challenging climbs with an 18% thrown in just to let me know I'm still mediocre at climbing. But the descents entice me to come back. Feasted on carnitas at the taco shop with a a couple of buddies.

Open invitation to any of you guys when you visit San Diego, come and ride with me.

Used to fish for blue gills at the little pond there on Mt. Hamilton. Wished I'd discovered cycling when I lived there off of White Road and Alum Rock in the mid 80's. Frequented Reed's Cyclery not for the bikes but for the hunting and fishing gear.

we rode to Julian during our cross-country bike tour a few years ago... after baking in Blythe & Brawley, the climb up into Julian then the subsequent descent into San Diego (where i felt the ocean breeze for the first time in many, many hot summer days) was amazing. we did the typical Julian-thing and had apple pie downtown, it was very good! we camped at some cool campground somewhere up there, great memories! :)

Well, I got out on Saturday. First ride in a couple of weeks. 50 rather slow miles with a breakfast stop in between. No pics, but the wind going south was a nice tailwind on the way back, otherwise, there was no way I was getting 50 in as I just didn't have the legs.

Base building this time of year for sure. Looking forward to March and the coming of spring. It's been the mildest winter in a while here in So Jersey.

Just sayin...

All this week is supposed to be high in the 60's except Saturday for us working stiffs when it will be a high in the mid 40's. Still not bad, but 60 is wonderful for riding this time of year.

Was fortunate enough to catch a ride to Tustin for the Como hills ride and got to ride some "hills" at a race pace. The weather was great just cold enough for a wind vest.

Clear and cool here Sunday, I rode 43 miles and was underdressed for the 26 degree temp late in the ride. 3rd pic doesn't show it but there's a line of windmills that were visible from 20 miles away.

Sorry to hear about your wife's hand and your hip, Bruce. If surgery is needed, get it over with ASAP. Every time I delayed fixing my knees, I only increased my recovery time.

Best wishes to Dogdriver for quick recovery. I've got a hiking campout with my son this weekend. I have been praying I don't pull anything!

Sorry, I don't have any picures for you forumites. The other Mass folks on here have shown just how incredible it was. Winter what winter??
I got two 20 plus milers done as well as hitting the gym all three days. Being able to find time for two small rides is not bad considering that I have two kids under three years old and our day care was closed on Monday.
The weather has been insane here in New England and have been riding all winter long. ***?? Strange, strange, strange. I am not sure what to think but my legs are happy for the early pre season riding regimine and thereby keeping them in shape for the spring-fall.
Hope you all are enjoying the ride too.

Yes, those are the close ones. In the other pic they're on the horizon, can just be seen in the original sized pic. I was thinking of you and that climb profile you posted, as my whole route had nearly the amount of climbing as your one climb. It did have one category 5 climb; even that is hard to find in my area.

That was Las Flores up to Saddle Peak Road. Haven't done Yerba in forever; it's about a 90 mile round trip from my place; that's beyond me till I htfu.

wife and I went out on Sunday in Addison County, northwest wind at about 15 mph, 36°F, no pics, but dry roads. Saw red tailed hawks (2), pileated woodpecker, crows, turkeys (8), and an assortment of little birds. Went by the slang on Lake Champlain where we see eagles in early spring, but still iced over, and no eagles yet. About 20 miles was enough. Have to get better foot gear....

I went out around 3 AM Tuesday to feed the boiler and it was white everywhere, heavy wet snow coming down. All melted well before noon.
