Can anyone recommend shop to rent an upper end roadbike for a one day ride?

McGhie's -- www.mcghies.com -- does this.

A C-dale Synapse ($40/day), Pinarello Paris ($120/day), and Madone 6.5 ($100/day) are currently listed on their website.

Planning on the Red Rock canyon ride? It is spectacular. Bring water & a visor.

Isn't Mt Charleston the standard Vegas climb? (I think)

You can do Charleston, but don't go up Kyle Canyon, too much traffic, no shoulder. Go up Lee, 17 miles up, 5%+ average.
Better though is the Red Rock canyon, do the scenic loop. From McGhies i'm guessing you'd get about 40 miles and 2500 plus ft. Go on to Mt. Potosi and you'll add another 25 or 30 miles and another couple thousand feet or so. Good scenery, good shoulders, good surface, traffic not too bad.

I rented from Las Vegas Cyclery for a day ($55 for a caad9-5 with 105), brought my own pedals and saddle.

Went out from there and did Red Rocks (http://connect.garmin.com/activity/147132313). You could easily do red rocks 2x, or if you look at the map there are some other mountains to climb to get up to your 80 miles..

Olympic Gardens has some good rentals. Can be pricey though. :p

Or you could try JT's bicycle on the other side of town, Henderson actually. That would put you close to the river mountain trail. It's a designated bike path that winds around the mountain between Las Vegas and Boulder City. A very nice 36 mile loop.

another option is the Lake Mead area, rolling hills, can get windy, but nice scenery.
