Took this pic on my ride today, was heading to Fort Mason near the Marina Green and saw this poor guy on Marina Blvd.
He tried to cut around stalled traffic and didn't realize it was freshly poured concrete.

Can the city bill him for the extra labor and materials to fix that stretch of concrete?

I feel for his car, but they typically don't just have wet concrete with out warning and some cones, etc.

let see:

Marina;
porsche;
driving like an a-hole...

Not somebody I would have bothered to empathize with by calling him "poor guy!" In fact, I cant think of a more appropriate person/demographic to whom I would want to allocate this great doling out of justice.

Perfect!

There was a story on NPR the other day about product placement. They mentioned how it's done for a variety of purposes, including sending specific messages to the audience. The guy being interviewed said something like: "Take cars, for instance, any time you want to emphasize to the audience that a particular guy is an @sshole you just have him drive a Porsche."

I think this confirms that insight...

It was coned off he was just trying to sneak in from a side street. Concrete "looked" solid.
I should have took a pic of all the folks gathered around taking pics, guy was stuck in car. He didn't want to open door and have concrete get in, the whole undercarriage and brakes will need to cleaned or replaced.

Can I borrow this pic and propagate it through the interweb?

This is just too good to not to share.

Edit: I hope the driver had the good sense to buy a round for the guys who got him out. Where was roadside assistance?

And I think one of the pictures used in Yahoo is yours:

And the paceline forum got a nice boost from the article :)

. . . about a whole office full of people in the CA DMV that does nothing but review the vanity plate applications to make sure nobody slips a fast one past them. They also had a two page spread of pics of some hilarious examples of people who had succeeded.

. . . I was expecting him to just gun it and drive away.

I would be very curious as to the ultimate outcome of this and whether the guy IS charged the freight on re-doing the concrete.

Anybody know if there was anything in the SF papers about this or the results?

That would be interesting to know. The workers had to stop their jobs to help and free his car up. I would guess an hours work. I arrived within 5 minutes of him getting stuck, I took a couple of pics then left to visit a friend working at Fort Mason I returned 45 minutes later and the car was gone and the street re paved.

Saw this on SFFixed and posted it on my Facebook before I had traced it back here (credited Bobswire @ Paceline when I found out)

I believe I was the first to post it on FB? It went totally viral (relatively) and now has almost 3400 shares!

The idea really seems to resonate with people, especially in these tumultuous economic times. Never thought it would blow up that big, but glad to be a part of the chain!

But really, I would have thought that car would be able to drive out of that.

Look again. It was sitting on it's undercarriage, eventually they dug it out.
