Who here enjoys a good stroopwafel?

Proper pronunciation sound file: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/41/Nl-stroopwafels2.ogg

A stroopwafel is a waffle made from two thin layers of baked batter with a caramel-like syrup filling in the middle.

"Stiff batter for the waffles is made from flour, butter, brown sugar, yeast, milk, and eggs. Medium sized balls of batter are put on the waffle iron. After the waffle has been baked, and while it's still warm, it's cut into halves. The warm filling, made from syrup, brown sugar, butter, and cinnamon, is spread between the waffle halves, gluing them together. "

How many post-ride Stroopwafelers do we have here? Add in some fresh espresso ......mmmmmmm!!

William

PS: A shout out to some fellow OSU alums who make a killer Stroopwafel

hells yes. but the fairway by me stopped carrying them, it would seem (and I refuse to pay the premium for honey stingers).

my post ride routine all summer was a glass of chocolate milk and a stroopwafel.

My boss is Dutch and every time he goes to the Netherlands he brings a bunch back for the office. 15 seconds in the microwave and they are delicious. One of my favorite desert like foods....

I never thought about buying them for myself here in the states, thanks for that link (I think...).

Even though they're not necessarily genuine stroopwaffels, technically speaking, I'm a big fan of the Honey Stinger variety (notwithstanding their affiliation with the Great Yellow), both on the bike and as an anytime treat.

The best-tasting variety from the Canadian company that makes the Honey Stinger ones is maple syrup and honey. It's not a Honey Stinger flavor, and probably won't be because it would be a bit messy from the maple syrup.

Stroopwafels are for girlies.

The real thing is the lacquemant (from my hometown actually... I'm very proud) http://www.getawaff.com/blog/waffle-lacquemant/

I used to get them from trader joe's, but they are so easy to eat a whole bag without even realizing it... I had to stop getting them.

Oh yeah. Somehow the idea of combining it with an espresso never occurred to me!

TJs sells mini wafels, I think. Strangely, I can only find them in the health food/organic sections here in France.

I love stroopwafels, and used to buy the packaged ones occasionally. Then, when visiting Amsterdam I made the mistake of getting one freshly made from a vendor at a local market. After that, the packaged ones never tasted the same to me. Now, they taste like a Mrs. Smith's frozen apple pie compared to my wife's freshly made one.

Kinda like I used to think Folgers or Maxwell House was just fine. Then I tried Starbucks...then Alterra in Milwaukee...then Stumptown in Portland...then Victrola in Seattle...and finally, Intelligentsia in Chicago. Now when I travel, I'm disappointed if the best I can find is Starbucks, as opposed to some local artisanal joint.

Can't go back. Alas, alas....

I used to work for a Dutch company and between that and a great many trips through Schiphol en route elsewhere, I have carried many a stroopwafel in an overhead compartment....
Best thing: lay one right over your cup of coffee for a few minutes to soften it up....yowsa!

Traders Joes is coming to Dallas - I'll have to bar my wife from going there. When we're in a town that has one, she always stocks upon waffles, toffee, and chocolate croisants. I'm going to have to ride twice as much!

Daelmans Stroopwafels. 18 packs per case and 2 jumbo wafels per pack, at about $16 per case.

No, but after a ride I dislocate my lower jaw, open the fridge door, and everything slides in without touches the sides. The efficiency of consumption. :)

My parents have a stroopwaffel iron and growing up we used to make them from time to time. We would buy the stroop from our local dutch grocer in Ottawa.

However, if you like stroopwaffels may I suggest that you also try poffertjes and oliebollen, other Dutch treats sold in roadside stands.

If you go to Trader Joes I recommend you not get these. They will ruin your life.

Or at any time. Only problem is that it is VERY hard to get a good one here in the states.

Can't wait to get a TJ's in town so I have consistent access to the stroop. In the meantime, the Honey Stinger is a much tastier alternative to other bars.

Have never had one, but my life shall not be complete until this abomination is corrected.

Shall add this to Mennonite Pie (accompanying photo), Ice Cream made with heavy cream and hand-churned by Iowa girls, Pork-Chop-on-a stick, bacon-wrapped corn ears, turkey balls (go ahead, lots of good jokes here), fried Jello, and the other saturated fat and pork-based products that I discovered on RAGBRAI this year that ruined my waistline and elevated all the bad stuff in my blood.

Occasionally found 'em at Cost Plus world market, too.
