View Full Version : Do we really need another Campy cassette thread? Yes, one more!

Here's a new one for me. 12-25 10-speed cassette. The 12 and 13 cogs are undrilled. The rest (the largest 8) are all drilled. Only the largest two cogs (23 and 25) are on a single carrier. The rest are loose And though I can usually tell if cogs are steel or Ti, I can't easily in this case. But! It seems like only the two largest cogs are Ti. Record? Chorus? Recus? Chord? Help!

Actually, I think it's possible that the four largest cogs are all Ti. But again, only the two largest are on a single carrier. Weird!

Looking at it even more closely, I'm not certain that any of the cogs are Ti.

Look, there's no point denying it: this is the best thread ever.

Do you have it in your possession or are you looking at pictures? If you have it then do a magnet test.

What's the magnet test? The internet tells me that Ti will attract a magnet. And probably vice versa. Am I missing something?

George Bernard Shaw said something funny about this. But I can't remember what. This thread gets better and better!

Your internet is confused I think. My ti frame, stem and seatpost will NOT attract a magnet.
A quick google search tells me it is non-magnetic in the sense that a magnet will not stick to it. However it is "paramagnetic"... (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paramagnetic )

In my experience, the cassette that you describe is a Centaur cassette, all steel. The Chorus and Record cassettes had 3 pairs of cogs on single carriers.

Stop focusing on that and just ride the stupid thing. Keep in mind that it will be compatible with ALL 10 speed campy shifters.

if you have a HD picture of it, you can still do the magnet test.Do you have it in your possession or are you looking at pictures? If you have it then do a magnet test.

You can also place a cog in water and see if it floats.

This just in: the internet is full of s--t. In other news, water is wet. Film at 11.
p.s. if you have the cog in-hand, hold it hard against a grinder. If you get lots of white sparks, congratulations, it's titanium.
Sucker.

It will only float if it weighs less than a duck.

Veloce= all loose cogs. Centaur= 2 largest pinned, remainder are loose. All steel cogs in both cases. I have 5-6 cassettes, all Veloce which is by far the best value. I do have on Record Ti/steel but because that's the only one that comes in 11-21 for TT's.
Lol @ Louis.

Good thread, but you need a new Internet for chemistry. Al Gore done you wrong! :)

Older Centaur had top two on a carrier. 2010 on Centaur all loose and were shinier... sometimes.

I'm guessing a Centaur all steel cassette.
And burn the witch.

Because if you do, I'll give you a "Record" cassette as a housewarming present.

Currently haggling over minor details like "how much money they can pay me."
Otherwise, I will be stuck with "record" cassettes for the foreseeable future.

Cassettes aren't threaded... you're thinking of freewheels.

Centaur. Doubt if it floats.

U need to post a picture because probably somebody made that cassette with record and other stuff coming from other groups. Or just replaced the last 2 with a record one.
